  1. A couple of things makes it pretty obvious:

    1. Many people are having this issue, and said people have various different setups.

    2. I've never, ever seen any other program exhibit this behavior in my life.

And do you understand how c++ starts the process?

  2.

My motive for posting the topic was to understand HOW others can transfer funds from your account without YOU knowing about it. Sometimes it's even hard to take money out from my own account. So many loops to go thru. It's hard to imagine. We read about it in news so it DOES happen. But HOW is it possible ??

With out you knowing about it? I can only comment on my own bank but there is not a magic alert that i get sent when ever a transfer is made. If me/some one logged onto my account then by bank assumes its me since the correct information was supplied either by phone or internet banking.

I check my statements, and banks do have some intelligence and monitor irregular activity but if they have the information then thats that.

We read about it yes, but what the papers forget to mention is MR/MS stupid received a call from some one in India and gave them all there information with out questioning.

  3. I tried to replicate your issue on 3 different machines that had ccleaner installed on. I checked WFS before i un installed. I then un installed ccleaner on each then reinstalled.

CCleaner each time opened with WFS not checked.

CCleaners built in uninstaller cleans up well after it self.

  4. Bank Fraud !!!!

This morning I read an article about bank fraud via malware attached to email.

    http://articles.latimes.com/2010/oct/01/business/la-fi-cyber-scam-20101001

I have no doubt that funds were lost because the article said so, BUT I always wonder how the funds were actually transferred.

    Let me explain...

So they got bank ID and password. So what?? Wire requires either in person transaction at the bank or some sort of personal information verification. Other types of fund transfers are impossible. Maybe pre-authorized Bill Pay. BUT still ???

Also, all banks offer email notification for anything from balance alert to daily limit red alert.

So the question to the forum...

Have anyone experienced bank fraud ?? Explain ??

Can anyone explain how the funds can actually leave once account to another without the owner knowing about it???

OR any other comments or discusssions !!!

Of course, anyone opening suspicious email..well...???

It it seems to me these bank fraud stories are impossible IF the owner do not participate..i.e. open emails, answer lottery winnings, free checks..etc...

    Thanks,

    Tiger

Personally i would say it's the users fault. Given out information via phone, Email, Post. Not shredding letters is a good culprit.

Never give out information to some one who has called you.

Regardless, as to the email attachments that just a naive user. It's there own lack of computer knowledge that allowed this virus to get on there machine. Take the i love you virus for example I_LOVE_YOU.TXT.vbs

I can see the extension quite clearly, You can, would my 80 year old gran?

A virus would have to be on my machine for quite some time to be able to gather all my security information, then still would not be able to transfer money as they would need my bank card, and generated card reader number.

  5. Do you know how to monitor the registry?

Regmon is a little tool that has sadly been discontinued.

    Open Regmon.exe

In the dialog (include textbox) write CCleaner.exe Then ok

Open ccleaner, and a list of entrys should appear. Press ctrl-x to wipe the screen

Now click the link. Do not do anything other then this. File - save as - save the .log

rename it to ccleaner.txt (piriform does not alloow upload of .log)

    then maybe i can see

  6. I might be oversuspicious, but...isn't this spam in disguise ? I wouldn't be surprised if his download link contained malware...

It's not suspicious. They have registered in loads of forums all with one post. Either mentioning VLC player (there own link) or have it in a signature with no reliant text to the OPs thread.

  7. If I was cleaning an older computer with lots of preinstalled programs on it, then I wouldn't be this paranoid. However, this is a new computer with a fresh install of a relatively faster OS with no additional programs on it other than CCleaner. Had it been 2-3x slower, then it's not really a big deal. But this is well over 10x slower and it goes beyond CCleaner's advertised "less than 1 second to run", which has gotten me pretty worried.

You are not going to really get much help, because there is nothing for any one to help you with. You are worrying about nothing. CCleaner is taking just over a second to run. Thats good for ccleaner. What on earth are you worried about? What will you do with this .80 of a second?

Take ccleaners statement with a pinch of salt. Key word they added "Normally"

This is ignoring many factors. Secure file deletion. Amount of junk needed to be deleted.

For arguments sake how could ccleaner say it would finish the clean in under a second if i had 3gb of junk and 35 passes set? (not that i would ever advise using 35 passes)

  8. Just before closing the logs i noticed a conflict with this entry

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\http\shell\open\ddeexec\Application "Firefox"

Changing this entry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\http\shell\open\ddeexec\Application "Opera"

Resolved the issue. I re changed it back to "Firefox" then repeated these steps 3 times.

Each time with opera set as default browser if this entry did not reflect as "opera" it would cause IE to open.

I hope this sorts your issue

I am reporting this as a bug to opera.

  9. I captured the Three registry changes that occur during, default browser change, and ccleaner starting the process to open a url.

I am not a main opera user, but taking a look it does not set all the protocols by default when becoming the default browser. It may be worth posting on operas forum.

I have attached the two files (for got to save third) if you care to look your self. Iv spent a good deal of time searching for possible conflicts and now admitting defeat.

    FirefoxLog.txt

    OperaLog.txt

  10. You will need to check what is the default http protocol, Off the top of my head you should really be making it user basis, and not system wide. Which means it wont effect other user accounts.

I'm no expert in the protocol so i may be wrong, but check these three settings for "C:\Program Files\Opera\opera.exe" "%1"

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\http\shell\open\command "C:\Program Files\Opera\opera.exe" "%1"

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command "C:\Program Files\Opera\opera.exe" "%1"

***EDITED**** Always a good idea to back up the registry before making any changes.

edit* i now believe this is not the issue. I will continue to try debug this. I'm suspicious it's a opera bug since the same happens with opera set as default here. Maybe not writing to the registry correctly.

  11. iTunes keeps a lot of unnecessary files

    in "user profile"\Application Data\Apple Computer

like "iPhone Software Updates" (400 MB) and MobileSync\Backup (200 MB)

Can CCleaner delete all these unnecessary files ?

    Thank you for your help

Hello and welcome to the forum. CCleaner allows you to manually add custom files/folders for cleaning.

    Options - Include

Then ccleaner - windows - advanced - check custom files and folders

  12. Webroot Spysweeper

    Avira Premium

Microsoft Security Essentials Worked before with these installed

    Malwarebytes Anti Malware

Iobit Security 360 Pro These two installed within 30 days

They are all the most up to date versions.

why are you running so many AV/AM items together? This will do more harm then any good.

What are you trying to acheive by registry cleaning?

  13. I've spent several hundreds of dollars before on nice leather jackets/coats. It's alright to splurge now and then on something nice that you really want and feel you deserve, so there's no reason to really feel guilty especially if you still pay other bills on time.

I only felt guilty because my fianc?e moaned, But since im treating her to 2 weeks in dubai next year she can't say anything

for any of you thats interested

  14. hi,

I am suggesting an additional feature for CCleaner. Mozilla Thunderbird accumulates cache for images, etc. at the following location in Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\{User Name}\Local Settings\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\{Thunderbird Profile Name}\Cache. The cache is in the same format as the Firefox cache. I have been clearing it manually but I think it would be good to see the feature integrated into the next version of CCleaner.

    Thanx,

    Pete

Hi, you can manually add folders to be cleaned, Options - Include

  15. Thank you for the clarification, I doesn't look as though Auto Shutdown answers my question.

All I want is for CCleaner to clean my files when I shut my PC down, rather than when I start it up.

I don't want to have to manually start the cleaning process.

I am sure it use to do this, but I can't find the appropriate box to tick.

Hello, CCleaner has never had the ability to detect system shut down. If you think for a second about the possible dangers of this.

System is shutting down, CCleaner detects this, trys to force system to stop shutting down. While trying to perform what could be a a long task. Then continue to shut down. It would not be practical for an application to do this. Even though it is possible.
