Hi, I recently downloaded and began using CCleaner and am very impressed. Congratulations on an excellent application!
Is it possible to run the application from a command line or on a schedule with predefined settings?
This factiility would be a massive boost as it would mean it could be automated on user PC's and servers etc.
Cheers,
Danny
Hi
for shedueled silent cleaning. create a short cut as described in my previous reply
right click on an empty space on the desktop>new>shortcutcopy this and put it in the location bar
"C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /auto
hit next>give it a re-name if you like>click finnish
your shortcut is ready (I suggest you put it in CCleaner's folder)
Then
control panel>performance and maintenance>scheduled tasks>doubleclick on "add sheduled task">next>browse.
browse to where the created shortcut is and select it>hit open then carry on to perform the task whether daily/weekly...etc.

Why doesn't this work for me? If I try to run from a BAT or CMD file, a DOS window opens very briefly, but nothing more happens. If I run it from START/RUN, nothing at all happens.
Sven
Hi
usualy you should include full path when you use start>run for .exe that isn't in windows directory
for CCleaner silent running "invisible" in the back ground
start>run
"C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /auto
hit OK
BUt if you want same silent "invisible" cleaning at each start up. then
open CCleaner>options tab tick
"run CCleaner when the computer starts" > hit OK and thats it.
Also you can make a shortcut and put it anywhere you like
right click on an empty space on the desktop>new>shortcut
put this in the location bar
"C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /auto
hit next>give it a re-name if you like>click finnish
your shortcut is ready
Now CCleaner will do its job silently by double clicking on this shortcut

It varies. It depends on your system. you have to do it and see.

no one got any advice??
Yes. it'll do no harm. you may experience a long shutdown thats the only difference. but you can do it once in a while

Hi
I know . manual update works for all programs not ad-aware only. For example I do manual update for Ewido always because I use it uninstalled (through USB flash).
but I'm thinking that the reg link to ad-aware folder could be corrupted.
can you please try it now. and see. if it doesn't work you can restore the defs from recyclebin. thanks
-
Hi Normandie
Strange! it always works for me. I tried it just right now and it worked.
BTW. have you used any reg cleaning program recently.

tommyk,
I have to take back my "I didn't have any problems", in a previous poste. I came into the office today and tried to update the computer here and it would not work. I ended up by having to download the file on their site and install it myself. Have no idea what the problem is.
Have a good day,
Normandie
DELETE PREVIOUS DEFS.
C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal
delete "defs.ref" and don't worry you'll get it back through update. then
open ad-aware> you'll get warning
"Error while loading the Ad-Aware definition file"
click ok> Ad-Aware opens>click check for update. it works 100%.

Hi
delete defs.ref file. Now try to update

InstallSpy v2.0 [1.23 MB]
This is not spyware, but a program to help you discover spyware! Track any and all changes to the registry and file system, and also record all shell notification events (e.g. media inserted), when a program is installed, uninstalled, or run. This can warn you of programs trying to install new services, programs that are set to run on reboot, changes to your home page, etc. It's a highly configurable program that allows you to catch any change to your system. Filtering lets you zoom down to the details that are most important to you.
FingerPrint v2.1.3 [1.46 MB]
A utility to see if any files in one or more directories have been created, deleted, or changed since the last scan. It's useful for checking if a program, e.g. viruses and trojans, has changed your all-important Windows files (this is similar to such security software as Tripwire). The use of MD5 checksums guarantee detection of file changes. FingerPrint can also be used to find duplicate files, search for files with a specific MD5 value, and save MD5 values to file (and compare with). A command line version is also included.
FireLogXP v1.3 [513 KB]
This is a simple program for people using the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) in Windows XP. It will read the log file and show you who is trying to get into your computer, and through which ports. The data can be filtered to include/exclude protocols, connection types, and TCP flags. It includes connections to on-line resources to give you more information on what a specific port is for and how it may be being exploited.

When I try to delete temporary files the conventional way in XP, [ start > programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup] there is always one folder in the list which never gets emptied. It is called ?Webclient/Publisher temporary files? and leaves 32Kb undeleted.
I tried your CCleaner and it didn't work.
That particular folder never gets emptied, and always shows 32Kb.
Question is why.
This is normal in any XP installation.

Hi
Thanks for the update.
I have two XPs and I installed identical CCleaner on both but one XP detects Ad-Aware SE Personal the other doesn't (although ad-aware is installed on both)
Any clue. Thanks

Also you can make a shortcut and put it anywhere you like
right click on an empty space on the desktop>new>shortcut

"C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /auto
hit next>give it a re-name if you like>click finnish
