Everyone knows that not many people are a fan of the new luna element 5.1, many people like the old 4.0 better. Till now i have been unable to find the download link for 4.0. I don't know if this is posted or not but heres the official download link of all the luna elements. Very useful find for me

I read that a few times but I installed both those themes tonight and they look really different to me.Zune seems to have gray/black look. Royale Nior has a Midnight blue (purplish) look. Also the place I down loaded the Royale Nior from also included the blue version of it . So when you go into Display Properties/ appearance tab/ in the color scheme field there is the option to select the black or blue version. Also I didn't need to patch the UXtheme.dll. I just unzipped it to the themes folder and it works well. Some sites had a modified version and you needed the patch to use it.
One thing though is that the theme is not visible in the Display Properties/Theme drop down list. You have to go into the folder and click on luna.msstyles and that launches the Display Properties dialog. Than once you make the adjustments you want and set the wall paper save that set up and that set up will be in the drop down list.
I despise the orange start button on the zune theme. The reason for this thread was because of the royale noir bug, royale noir was the "Beta" for the zune theme.

OK. Once the patch is installed/applied can you still use the default XP theme or do you have to unpatch again to use it?
Once the uxtheme.dll patch is applied, you can use ANY theme. They shouldent really call it a patch, its a hack. MS made it so only digitally signed visual styles from them can be used on windows. With this "Patch" you can use any visual style signed by MS or not. You can still use luna, or the windows classic or royale, all its doing is allowing you to use any .msstyle that you download and put in your themes folder. So yes you still can use the defult windows themes.

OK no problem. Did this problem start just after you downloaded the Royale Noir theme?Do I understand the problem correctly? You could select themes from Windows desktop properties drop down list but you could not go into the file directly and activate the theme? Is that right?
That is right, i could do that. But when i wanted to use royale noir, it has a bug where it can only be activated if the .theme or .msstyle is cicked on. So this inspired me to create this thread, so i could use royale noir. Not to mention it was getting on my nerves that i couldent use themes. I belive this was caused by me correcting every single problem with abexo and a variety of other registry cleaners. That wont happen ever again, only cc and AWC can be trusted.

Can anyone help me?? All i need is for someone to do those simple steps and show me what there working .theme files say so i can fix my own.

Thanks for that link to the patch. Any possible problems using that I should know about before hand? Is it reversible?
It is totally reversible, just click on the patcher, it will take like 2 minutes, your theme will turn to classic, it will prompt reboot. Reboot and you can use custom themes from sites like DA. Then when you get tired, or when you want to install the next service pack just click on the patcher again, follow the prompts, reboot and your back to the unpatched uxtheme.dll.

Sorry User000 can't answer that one. Out of ideas atm except maybe try sfc /scannow and I really don't know if it will help.Place the xp cd in your cd/dvd drive
Go to start

I allready did that last week, the problem isnt that im missing system critical files that can be copyed to windows, its that something (i dont know what) has deleted the action that that tells windows what to open .theme with. i need to remake this action, as the person in that thread did. I don't know if this is to much to ask humpty but could you please go to folder options > file types tab > then find THEME > click on it > click advanced. it should say open click on it and click edit on the side > could you then please copy and paste everything in the fields for THEME? Thanks! Heres a screenshot of what it is missing and what i need someone to give me so i can input it and re open my theme files. this is what i ddid for .msstyles and now i need someones for .theme. Thanks!
Heres a picture tut of what im asking for:

Humpty, thanks for all of your help, unfortunitly none of your suggestions helped. I have figured out whats wrong, but i am not famliar with the termonology, perhaps you could assist? In this thread http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...174730&st=0 someone had a simular problem as me, and a suggestion on the second page of it said to open folder options > file types and find MSSTYLES and then edit how it gets opened and he posted what he used to open it. Which is C:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL C:\windows\system32\desk.cpl desk,@Appearance /Action:OpenMSTheme /file:"%1" The thread maker then used this in his msstyles file types dialogue, and it worked for him. It works for me as well. Unfortunitly my computer is plagued with the same problem except with .theme file types. Would pasting the same thing work for .theme files as well? Do you know what exactly to type in for the .theme dialogue? Thanks.

Have you been to the link below.
I tryed that one, nothing happened as this happens with any .msstyle i click on , not just the lunadefult one.
I will try it again for good measure. But i think the soultion does not lie with kellys korner, as i have tryed allthe registry fixes with ctrl f themes.
EDIT: !!! now im stuck in classic theme, i windows still cant open theme files and now i select royale or xp defult, i log off and log back on and it goes back to classic, now what do i do ??

today i decided that i wanted to use royale noir again, so i went and downloaded it. Knowing the bug that it cant be selected by the drop down menu i went to click on it to activate it. This is what happens when i click on the file.
This also happens to ANY Theme file! Windows cant find what created it, but it can still use them in the drop down menu in properties. I really want to use royale noir! Themes like royale and defult ones work fine in the drop down menu, but not being able to select a theme manually has me concerned. I have search throughout kellys korner and have not found a reg file that has fixed this. Do any of you guys know where to find a solution to my problem? thanks a million.

Hi User000, first of all call me Dennis, I prefer it.
Secondly, apologies for you having such a hassle with Jahshaka.
The fact that it had been recommended on here a couple of times previously without any negative feedback, and the fact that back on June 16th you said you were using it from the 3 or 4 suggestions given, I thought that it must be an OK programme.
If you had came back then, and informed me of your bad experience, that information could have been helpful to others.
We all try to help each other on here, and I did try each programme myself before posting last month, and although Jahshaka did seem to have its limitations, I was lucky not to have the same bad experiences you did.
So my apologies again, but if you do have problems with any software suggested here, please come back and post your findings.
For the benefit of this thread, did you find a suitable alternative?
You have nothing to apologize for, you were only trying to help, sorry if i came on like it was your fault.

DennisD When i asked for a video editior freeware, i went and downloaded jahshaka, i installed it, and the runtime files, but it crashed like mad, wouldent let me open any video file, it crashed when doing anything. Even if it did work, i wouldent understand howto use it. It is confusing like gimp when you first use it. The reviews on download.com agree with me, its buggy and non useable for most people.

This is a big probelm now, taken from a forum "elite" there this will help many other people who have the smae problem as me:
ok, i downloaded that msi myself.
looks like they replaced the msi with a new version (6.0.2.621, previously was 6.0.0.308), unfortunatly the uploaded file is incomplete (so it's not a valid installation file).
That one is the one which works:

If you don't have any luck, have a read of post number 8 here,

Have you tried downloading from a different site?
Try Download.com
http://www.download.com/AOL-Active-Virus-S...4-10568703.html
Thanks for the wallpaper
clicking download on download.com redirects to the same site. thus the same problem occurs.

Try re-downloading the AOL AV, as it probably got corrupted during download.
Nice Wallpaper by the way.

You are right. After "delete completely' with Restoration and then doing a c:\ scan there were np files listed. Not so with Eraser. I even tried using Recuva and seeing what it saw and the result was the same. I am a bit weary of one thing though: the deleting process with Restoration was rather quick. That leads me to believe that it is not being as securely erased as things are with eraser, where you can actually pick the method used. I have no idea what is beign done with Restoration erasing. That leads me to think that Eraser is better in that regard. Also, I was prompted to do a second scan after deleting free space with Restoration. I think that might be what is leading to the scan results. If this is the case, then Eraser should incorporate something similar with their product. But again, just becayse you cannot see any file names does not mean that there are not any there to recover. Conversely, just because files are listed does not mean that they are going to be recoverable. My suggestion, at least for the time being, is to use a combination of Eraser, using a secure erase method, and Restoration, because of that second scan. That way you are sure you are 'safe'. I will mention this at the Eraser forums.
Thank You.
I had thought so, i think it's a good idea to use eraser 35 pass wipe or nsa 7 wipe and then use restoration erase. Thanks you just about answered my question, ill look for your thread on the eraser forums =p will be interesting read.
