[Blank Screen after Windows Loading Screen]

I have a Unbuntu Live CD, 2 DVD RW drives and external drives, so getting hold of the data is not a problem.

 

Before this happened, I had booted up the PC to check and send a couple of Outlook emails then shut down again to go to work. Got back few hours later and this happened.

 

After the Windows loading screen nothing happens apart from the screen is just black. I can still hear the hard drives accessing data as usual like the PC is starting up etc.

When I boot up my PC, I get the Windows loading screen but when that has finished, instead of being taken to the Windows login screen, my screen just goes blank. Nothing wrong with graphics card or monitor as it still works with my Linux Live CD.

 

I've ran the SeaTools hard drive test floppy disk, my HD passed that.

 

I can't boot into safe mode as that stalls while loading (has done for about a year).

 

I don't know how to get back into Windows.

 

I don't want to just format has I've alot of docs that are not backed up.

Hangs when it gets to 90% of C: drive scanned. Also hangs when it scans my other drives.

I have a question regarding one of the most popular download sites - Download.com - they are chronically late to have the latest software versions available, e.g. Ccleaner 1.26 was there until late April. I have complained about their lateness, and they replied that it is the responsibility of the developers to upload their latest versions.

 

My question: is there anyone here who uploads the latest version of Ccleaner? (Other download sites such as Majorgeeks usually update on the same day a new software is released).

 

 

I always thought Download.com gave priority to 'paid for' software first.

Right, I have heard that the Hotfix Uninstaller in older versions of CCleaner f**ks your PC up.

 

Now I have run this option in the past and deleted all the Hotfix Uninstallers. What has this done to my PC? I have not noticed any problems yet but I would still like to know what/if it has done any damage.

Least there is a choice to install CCleaner with toolbar or not I suppose.

Grrrrr... me no like Intel...me like AMD =)

I have an AMD 2400+ equivelent, and it's very good, plays most games, does most apps pretty quickly. It's not top-of-the-line (The newest AMD dual core literally has two of them), but it provides plenty of basic functionality.

 

If you are thinking about upgrading in the future, consider getting a 939 socket motherboard.

Im limited on what I can upgrade to as my Celeron is Socket 478 with 400FSB and I understand that only low end P4's have thoughs specs.

 

On another note, I've found a Celeron 2.4Ghz, I wonder if that would be worth it.

Just tryed it now, It only displays a few items e.g WinZip, SpySweeper & NOD32. It didn't display the Paint Shop Pro items and a few others.

 

Instant install though.
