  1. Hello to everybody,

    1) I have got myself a new computer and, (besides having to download the last version of the CCleaner again, because I forgot to take it

    'with me'
), I had to extract my mail from Outlook Express (Windows 2000) and burn it on a CD in order to use it with my new machine and OS (OS= Windows XP). To my disappointment:blink:, it has shown that the mail is f in .dbx files, and my Adobe Reader 6 will not read it. Does anyone know of a (possibly free) software to open my old mail, i.e. to read the .dbx format?

    2) Do you recommend membership in Microsoft SpyNet group? What are the

    (dis)advantages?

Thank you and all the best, Atnes

  2. Dear forum members,

After several months of excellent performance (versions 1.38; 1.39; and now 1.40..), my copy of CCleaner seems to have lost its interest in my computer crap :(

According to the results I get daily from the routine scan by the

PC Scan and Sweep tool, the number of my junk + clutter files has been constantly increasing over the past few days. Needless to say that accordingly, the performance of my computer has been slowing down to. I tried to add to the cleaning process folders and files from other disk sections - not only the default harddrive C:, but also D: and E:,

but the program (CCleaner) warns me by saying that all added/custom files or folders will be removed and/or emptied, not just cleaned for clutter etc. So what am I supposed to do? How do I get the CCleaner to resume its excellent performance from some months ago?

Any suggestion wil be greatly appreciated!

    Best to all, Atnes

  3. As CCleaner says, they are "Hotfix Uninstallers". Deleting them, you will loose the function "Unistall" for

all the updates installed thru WindowsUpdate. I heard some people having trouble with this, in the past

(specially with previous IE7 betas versions, if i'm not wrong). Deleting them, or leaving them alone is your

choice (and your risk, of course)

Better leave them alone then, I guess! B) Thanks!

  4. Hello to everybody,

My question: When running the TOOLS section in CCleaner, a lot of Windows hotfix files show in the right window. A LOT! Should I delete/uninstall them - or would I be running the risk of causing damage to my system? And what about all those Windows Update files that have also accumulated over time? Should they stay - or should they get acquainted with our wonderful CCleaner more closely ? :P

    Thank you for your suggestions!

    Regards, Atnes

  5. Please be EXTREMELY careful with RegSeeker if you choose to use it and if you're not sure what you're doing with the registry then leave RegSeeker well alone. Its a very powerful program with the ability to do an awful lot of damage in inexperienced hands.

Thanks. I'll stick to CCleaner and use its registry cleaning option with much caution and strictly following the Guide, then no damage can happen I hope  .

    1.

"RegCure is a rogue registry cleaning utility that gives the user false hopes in fixing the problems enumerated", said in Malwarebytes'RogueRemover application. RogueRemover is a utility that can remove various rogue antispyware, antivirus and hard drive cleaning utilities.

You can use CCleaner to clean the registry and RegSeeker too. They work very well.

Thanks a lot. Very useful information.

  6. Hi to all,

Forgive me my ignorance  please - my computer is still rather slow, so I was considering downloading the RegCure software, although I downloaded the superbly functioning CCleaner a few days ago ... Does anoyone have any experience with RegCure? Does it have any sense to use it - together with CCleaner? And another question (forgive me again :( ) - when prompted to download the Ccelaner version 1.37.456, I am asked to chose between the

    - Download from FileHippo.com (more downloads)

    and the

    - Alternative Download . What is the difference between these two options? More downloads? Or should I better wait for the version 1.8... to be realeased as announced? Thank you very much for any suggestions in both issues. Best to all! :)

  7. Thanks, I wrote it so everyone could understand it. I do agree it has a lot of information, but is lacking... I originally wrote the guide to just to show how people how to us CCleaner, but people requested that more info be added, so I have been building it up ever since.

There is more info I can add, I have plans of doing it. I have been sick lately and haven't done much besides work, lay on the couch, and watch tv. The only thing I can see is, it seems to me it's falling away from being a Beginner's Guide, to the Complete Guide. :)

Hopefully, I will have it all complete this week, or maybe this weekend.

Thank you very much for your reply. I hope you will be completely well soon - my suggestion in this regard: do not start to work too hard before that, it may be harmful to your health! Just keep warding the couch and watching the telly. And then, once you are OK again, I really am looking forward to the completed guide. And I am sure I am not the only one!! ?

    Take care. Atnes

  8. Welcome to the forum. The guys on here know a whopping lot about computers, and will not steer you wrong. CCleaner is a great program, and quite safe but powerful.

For my part, may I suggest that you do not tinker with the registry until you are very sure of yourself. The option that does that is the little blue cube at the top left of the splash screen. Looks like a monochromatic Rubik's cube exploding.

Thanks for your suggestion! I activated the CCleaner yedsterday - not all of it, of course - and nit works just great! I think it is an ewxcellent tool, extremely user-friendly, too. And the Beginner's Guide (thanks, Sputnik, to tell me about it) at http://internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerb...g%20started.htm

is superb. Although detailed enough in description, it is still very concise. It is also very clear and systematic, as if especially written/designed for laypeople like me  . Bravo to the author(s) of this guide!

  9. I recommend that you don't tick anything in the Advanced section until you become more familiar with the program.

Btw, welcome to the forum. :)

Stick around, it's the best way to learn.

You are right, Woody, I won't touch the Advanced section before I know more, thanks!

  10. Welcome to the forums Atnes :)

A good place to start exploring the possibilities of CCleaner is the Beginner's Guide, which you can find here: http://internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/

Take a look at 'CCleaner information', which shows you what will be deleted if you check a certain box, and at 'Issues'. Just make sure you always make keep a backup of the deleted registry items found by the issues scanner.

    Dear Sputnik,

Thank you very much for your help - I'll try the site you suggested and see if I can get any smarter ;) I only hope that I didn't already lose some files that I may need

  11. Dear CCleaner users, I am completely new here - and a new CCleaner user- and as such COMPLETELY LOST. I have already read all the FAQs, but there was no such stupid questions as the following one of mine: WHICH BOXES DO I CHECK, IF I WANT TO STAR CLEANING WITH THE CCleaner? In the WINDOWS sections ; IE, WINDOWS EXPLORER, System, ADvanced? All of them? And what if they get all removed? What do I chack in the Applications section? You see? 'Completely lost' is an underestimation of my problem. Thank you very much for any hints!
