Let's try and clear this up...
The prefetch feature within XP essentially creates a .pf file every time an EXE is run. This records the way the program loads and saves this data to optimize it in the future. (It's a bit more complicated but that's essentially it.)
Now these files will stay around on the system until the 128 pf file threshold has been reached. XP will then start deleting the old ones for you. The problem is that most users only have around 40-70 programs and services that they run on a regular basis. Which means the prefetch data will remain for an additional 58 to 88 programs before they get deleted. This will mainly include system updates and demo software, that are only run once or have been removed. You'll also have a record of all the exe filenames you've run (including any bits of dubious software!)
CCleaner will remove the prefetch pf files that haven't been accessed in the last 2 weeks, so removing the old and unused ones, but leaving all the programs you use most as fully optimized. Granted this will only save you a small amount of diskspace, and isn't protecting your privacy to the extent of IE History cleaning, but then the prefetch cleaning is only a minor part of CCleaner.
I know fully well you could say, "what about the fact it will delete the prefetch data for the program I only run once a month?"... or "what if I go on holiday for two weeks and then come back?"... or "I've turned off the LastAccessedDate property on my file system so it deletes all the pf files." ... or "I'm in love with my .pf files and don't want anyone to touch them!"
If you think these factors affect you or are highly important then I'd thoroughly recommend you turn prefetch cleaning off, if not then leave it the box checked.
Either way in the vast majority of cases running the prefetch cleaning option in CCleaner will optimize the system (reduce the number of unnecessary files) and not degrade performance.

Hey guys... I do sometimes read these parts of the forum.

I get the following error when using CCleaner:Error cleaning Firefox cookies
62 - Input past end of file
The progress indicator won't stop until I close the error message window.
Please advice

This is most likely due to your theme rather than the resolution. Post a screenshot and we'll take a look.

That should be fairly easy to implement.
I'll probably add an export feature which saves the data to a text file and can be optionally printed out.

only one suggestion for me.....A disk space analyzer tool.....I even created a prototype on what it might look like ^^
(btw....the window contents was taken by a program called WinDirStat http://windirstat.sourceforge.net/ )

There are no outstanding problems that I'm aware of.
A lot of these comments come from competitors trying to bad-mouth CCleaner.

I've heard some unfounded claims about CCleaner's Registry Cleaners integrity. Here is a direct quote:"It has come to our attention that the "Registry Integrity" section under the "Issues" tab has lately been causing System problems on some machines. The reg cleaner has been finding problems that don't exist and deleting legitimate registry entries and some of the backups for "Issues" don't work correctly."
I have never personally experienced ANY problems with it can an admin confirm or deny this exists or has ever existed in any versions.

The new version of CCleaner is now out. The main changes are language fixes, specifically lots of changes to the Swedish version. Plus 3 new translations.

Run CCleaner with /DEBUG parameter, then run the cleaner and post what the last message box displayed is.

The progress bar keeps going back to the start again, because there's no way for it to tell how long it's going to take. It's more a way to show you that the program is doing something.
I may add in something that tells you what it's currently working on, but then this would slow it down a bit.

Potential problem with Firefox 1.5 beta

Hi all,
I've installed the beta 1 of Firefox 1.5 and it seems to have moved the cache from "Application Data" to "Local Settings\Application Data". So CCleaner isn't removing the files. Can anyone else verify this for me?
