Latest update makes cleaning extremely slow/MS Edge issue

Well, I don't know what happened, but the last update has made cleaning a horribly slow and tedious process.  It used to get done in a matter of seconds, but now it takes several minutes.  The issue seems to be with Microsoft Edge - if I have that open and refuse to close it when asked, CCleaner works like it used to and cleans in less than 10 seconds,.  If I uncheck the boxes tied to MS Edge, it also cleans almost as fast as it previously did, so the issue is definitely tied to that program somehow.  By comparison, it cleans the Chrome items without issue.

I'm using version 5.41.6446 (64 Bit) and just reinstalled it, but no improvement.

Wipe Free drive space is not checked.  Secure Deletion is on "normal".

Operating system Win 10 Home version, 64 Bit - All current available patches/updates installed.

Does anyone know the cause and/or if it will be fixed in an upcoming patch?

Thanks to any and all who respond.

no known cause that I know off, nor a 'fix' (if it is a bug) in the next version.

other members with the same complaint seem to be going back to v5.40, available from FileHippo.

OK, so I went to File Hippo and downloaded the 5.40 version, having uninstalled the 5.41 version first.  When trying to install, it gives me an error that it can't open up the install package.  I hit Ignore and it installed, but now it doesn't display the icon on the task bar like it normally does and when opening the program it still displays version 5.41 as the current one, and the cleaning is just as slow as before.  Is there some registry fix that needs to be done before installing the previous version?

try this;

uninstall the current version again.
then go into the Program Files folder for CC and delete its contents
    (keep the .ini file if you have customised settings)
reboot the PC then reinstall the FileHippo v5.40 version.

if no luck, try the install with the PC in Safe Mode.
