You've started multiple topics for this question but I'm going to reply here since it is a CCleaner question.

 

Don't clean the registry if you don't know what you're doing. It doesn't yield appreciable gains in performance and can break things if you delete something you shouldn't.

Quick answer is Not Really and YES !

 

Each to his own; cleaning anything runs the risk of going too far and breaking something.  In a nutshell, it's that simple.

I run the reg cleaner maybe once a year.

 

If you do, take the added insurance of doing the backup offered during the process.

 

CC has a good reputation for taking the softly-softly approach to both PC and reg cleaning so is usually more trustworthy than others - but things can still go wrong.

 

Your registry needs to be really bloated or the windows system 'broken' somehow(malware, corrupted, 18yo son playing on my PC :huh: ) for a reg clean to be of any need.

Backup now & backup often.
It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.
Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
