corrupted attachment in Windows email

Recommended Posts

I am running Windows XP professional SP2. My mail client is Outlook Express.

I accidentally deleted an email while cleaning it of old addresses. It was a permanent delete. Recuva (ver 1.42.544) found a zip file of of my major email folders which had not been overwritten and I successfully recovered it to an empty folder. I extracted the wanted email from the zip file (using the Windows Zip capability) and tried it. The text message looked ok but the attached video file had been corrupted such that it would not play using Windows Media Player ("Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file."). Has anyone else encountered this problem? I can supply the corrupt extracted file. Just now, the person who sent it to me resent it so now I have the uncorrupted version also. I would attach the files but they are slightly over 5 MB in size.
