An idea for the New Year. (As good a reason as any)

We seem to get these issues popping up all the time.

Can't read boot record: | Computer won't recognize internal or external drive: | Computer won't boot: | Hal.dll missing: | Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file:

And many other similar and pretty disastrous circumstances people find themselves in, so post here your ideas on what you think is the best method, or the best software to use to attempt to fix any or all of these many different issues.

We mostly have different ideas, some of which may not be any good, or are aware of software others aren't aware of, and maybe we can build up a very useful and comprehensive arsenal of ways to best fix these issues.

I'll kick off with these:

Paragon Rescue Kit 10 Free Edition: (Link)

Easily Fix Boot Problems: Rescue Your Data: Undelete Partition:

Roadkil's Boot Builder: (Link)

Boot builder allows you to create your own custom boot sector from scratch. This utility allows you to recreate or restore boot sectors lost due to virus or other damage to a drive. Boot sectors can be imported/exported to a disk or created from a template. This program supports FAT and NTFS boot sector types.

Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file:

In XP, replace the corrupt or missing files with duplicates from the "Windows\i386 folder", or the same location on your Windows CD. Does the same location exist in the other Operating Systems?

That's a start. Post whatever ideas you have on any issues like this, and we'll all probably learn something.
