Word unable to open files after recovery

I downloaded Recuva this morning to retrieve files deleted from a flash drive.

 

I used the wizard and followed the steps.

I selected three files, one .doc and two .docx and had Recuva place them on my network's external hard drive

I attempted to open each document in Word

For the doc file, I got a Word error message saying that I was lacking the converter

For the docx files, I got a Word error saying the file was missing something

 

Ordinarily, I am able to create and open .doc files with Word, so I believe I have the converter installed and working.

 

Any help is appreciated. The document I deleted represents hours of work.
