pwal
Help - I ran CCleaner and now IE cannot access the internet. Found the registry backup file where I told CC to place it after running scan, but it does not seem to be an executable file (just text). Tried right-clicking (using Explore) to see if the menu option MERGE appears - it doesn't. So what has gone wrong, does CCleaner not save backups automatically - if so, where? If MERGE is a valid command - is that from within CCleaner or Explore? If MERGE is a command from CCleaner, how do I perform a search and enact this command? frustrated. Moderators DennisD Posted June 13, 2009 Moderators Share Posted June 13, 2009 Hi pwal, and welcome to Piriform. The reg backup will look like this: cc_20090112_030538.reg The .reg may not be evident if your Windows folder settings are set to "Hide Extensions For Known File Types". Right click the file, select "Properties". "Opens With" should say "Registry Editor". If it doesn't, select "Change" and choose "Registry Editor" and click OK. You should now be able to double click or select "merge" to restore it.
pwal
Dennis Thanks for the quick reply - have just tried using System Restore without success. Will bring the PC back to todays' restore point & do a search as you suggest.
