As of today the CCleaner builds download page at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds is still offering the old CCleaner Portable v6.39 (ccsetup69.zip, rel. 20-Aug-2025) .ZIP file.
The “normal” direct download link for CCleaner Portable at Thanks for downloading CCleaner is also downlading the old ccsetup639.zip.
Given the limited beta testing for CCleaner BETA v7.x to date I’m astounded that v7.00.984 (rel. 06-Oct-2025) is already considered a “stable” release, but I’m curious to see what features, if any, have been added / removed from the v7.x Portable build.
Hi @lmacri - CCleaner 7 is designed to be installed on a machine rather than run as a portable executable. This change has allowed us to improve functionality across various parts of the product.
We know portable matters to some users, so we’re tracking demand through the early rollout. Interest has been lower than expected so far, but we’ll keep monitoring as more people upgrade and factor it into future plans.
I hope that Avast / Piriform reverses their decision and releases a Portable build for CCleaner v7.xx. I only use a limited number of CCleaner Portable features - primarily Custom Clean, the registry cleaner (only on a limited basis and only if I need to clean up orphaned registry entries left behind by an uninstalled program that are causing problems) and the System Restore point manager, so for me even a slimmed down version of CCleaner Portable v7.00 or higher with only basic cleaning capabilities would be fine.
FYI, I never use Health Check, Performance Optimizer, Software/Driver Updater and most of the other features that have been added to CCleaner in recent years, so each time CCleaner Portable is updated I only keep three of the unzipped CCleaner Portable files (CCleaner64.exe, portable.dat and license.txt ***) and copy over the ccleaner.ini file from the previous version, which I re-use each time CCleaner Portable is updated so I don’t lose my custom configuration settings. From the folder on my removable USB stick where my current CCleaner Free Portable v6.39 files are located:
*** NOTE: If you use a non-English edition of CCleaner Free Portable v6.xx you must also keep the \lang subfolder bundled inside ccsetup6xx.zip. The \LOG and \Setup subfolders are created automatically the first time CCleaner64.exe (or CCleaner.exe if you have a 32-bit OS) is run.
I’ve used CCleaner for over 20 years, but If Avast / Piriform stops providing Portable builds for CCleaner v7.xx I will move on to another disk cleaner and stop using your product.
ccleaner is a very good, functional app. Thanks for continuing to make a free version available, from its only freeware days, in acknowledgement of the fact that ccleaner was born as freeware.
Appreciate the need to monitize.
But upgrading to a version 7 (even one with a nice UI) and forcing the install directory, removing portable install is a bit of an insult to the long term, technically not-newbie users of ccleaner.
Even if there are a lot of good / better alternatives to ccleaner many continue to use it for its simplicity and basic functionality.
Saying that there is no portable and then marking it a ‘solution’ is not accurate.
Please consider offering a simple basic portable version as freeware anytime a new version is developed.
