  1. I wish for the address in USA for a BBB complaint to be sent to piriform/ccleaner.

I wish to file a BBB complaint about a moderator team member.

I took a look at it and this reported error is related to accessing the internet.

It can easily be replicated by putting your computer into 'Flight Mode' and so disconnecting from the net.

I suspect that in most cases it's firewall settings that are preventing CCleaner from accessing the net.
I'm aware that many users have blocked CCleaner in their firewalls, or it may be AV settings that's blocking the Updater from accessing the net.

Who in there right mind would want Ccleaner/Piraform to update there computer?

This should be done from Microsoft.

    This IS done by Microsoft.

We PC users have issues with updates as it is.

Updates for motherboard drivers should be done from the company the motherboard is made.. ASUS, Gigabyte etc. NOT ccleaner.

Microsoft notifies you of Microsoft approved updated drivers.

WHY WOULD ANYONE want to start to trust a 3rd party like Piraform via Ccleaner to do this?

    Outdated website too.

The first thing needs to be considered here is this... pop ups. Ccleaner has pop ups to upgrade, once you upgrade the pop ups are still not stopping. The features your upgrading for are not showing up. The 'within 4 hrs ' of customer service has been reported to not be correct.

Why the hell would you let Ccleaner check for updates or update or have anything to do with updates for your PC??

"Keeping software updated is a hassle, but it fixes security holes in your applications"

Ccleaner is a security hole. Everytime I scan a version over on VirusTotal, there is always some positive. Some toolbar, some weird web address.. something.

    Now pop ups.

Even posting in the forums here, threads get closed.

    Even this website has issues.

Not only has the updated version of "CCleaner Free" brought us a totally useless (because "dead") extra function -  now it even has turned from freeware to adware. Ever since, CCleaner spawns advertisement popups telling the user to upgrade CCleaner. What will be next? And will there be any way to stop CCleaner from spawning popups? Riddles after riddles...

Not only that, but  even if you get PRO the features aren't showing, and the support simply said  they wish to privately explain why? (Then the thread got closed)

Hi. I'm on a Win 8.1 notebook with limited C drive space so I need to keep it clear. My free space took a massive tumble downwards so I investigated and tried to clean. CCleaner got the usual suspects (e.g. browser cache, yes I know I can move that away) but even so that was only a few hundred MB and not the real problem. Turns out it was a big Windows update.

Thing is CCleaner doesn't seem to erase old updates correctly?

I had to go to C drive Properties, Disk Clean-Up, then Clean Up System Files. The "Windows Update Clean-Up" had a gig and a half or so in it.

Is it by intention CCleaner does not do the various System File clean-ups? Is it is a bug? Should CCleaner at least offer an option to open the System File clean-up if it doesn't do it itself?

    What notebook is it?

Can you upgrade the HDD? You can youtube search or google search for your name notebook 'xyz notebook hard drive replacement' . Especially if it is Windows 8.1.. I'm 100% sure you can change the HDD to an SSD. You can check 'Slickdeals' 'Fry's' 'Microcenter' 'Newegg' 'Amazon' for good SSD sales.

If you buy an SSD for it (which are cheap now days) the SSD's usually come with a 'clone' program to simply copy over your old hard drive to new.

Therefore you have all the space you need and your 'specific' problem is solved.

You will also need an enclosure for the new drive to clone the old drive. Put the new drive into the enclosure, and plug it into the laptop.. clone the old drive over to it, then swap the new drive into the laptop.

Just make sure the new drive comes with a clone software. I know the Samsung drives do.

IF you don't care about what is on the drive, photos, etc.. then do a fresh install of windows ( your restore CD or windows download has a link to OS restore thumbdrive files with using your Windows Authenticity code on the bottom of the laptop). Then plug new drive in and fresh install windows. No need for enclosure or clone.

The BEST upgrade to any laptop is changing from HDD to SSD. No moving parts drive (SSD = Solid State Drive /like a thumb drive ) are SUPER fast. It is like having a new laptop.

Ask anybody here if it is worth changing your HDD to SSD.

It would solve your issue and boost speeds.

  5. I have downloaded Ccleaner in the past, scanned it and there was nothing found....NOTHING found.

Now that AVAST is in control, there is crap found in almost EVERY version.

For those that ridicule me for pointing that out .....

    In your neck.

...and yet, every time I show ( NO, I HOLD YOUR HAND ) how I found something, you guys have sOMe excuse for it.

    "#portable#

'Oh it's this'... 'oh it's that'...

There should not be anything in this (like it used to be).

    Every

Freakn (Yes, I did change this)

    Time.

NOW there is reports of the pop up, people upgraded are still getting the pop up.

I did not download Ccleaner from a 3rd party site.

On 3/11/2019 at 14:50, Nergal said:

No specifically the .ru based ccleaner installer you mentioned. That is not an official download site and well could be full of malware.  The ONLY places to download ccleaner are ccleaner.com and file hippo.  Else yes it may have dangerous intent.

The .ru is what I found IN that download.

I am saying, I downloaded Ccleaner from that https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds website, and the .ru was IN IT.

Do we understand each other now? ?   :D

I dare to check again .. shall I ? LOL

Lets do the portable version. : )

Just looking at the findings on that is scary to me.

I know it doesn't show .ru, things seem to change every time I re download and check. It is if the file is being changed in the download but still the same version.

I don't know, but every time I check there is SOMETHING.. like below... have fun reading what you find when you click one.

(providing you even try) Don't forget, you must sign into virustotal to see the 'expanded view' of the files you scan.

If you don't bother to look, don't reply.

What I am saying is, every time I scan a download from there website, ( https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds ),

there is something found. Every time.

  7. Hi Andavari,

    Thank you for your reply

I am however concerned on your replies to this thread.

YOU are the one that posted YOUR findings of VirusTotal scan (Which I NOW find out you don't have a simple log in set up to VirusTotal)

First, you said there is no findings on the slim version of ccsetup 553.

I then expanding the ccsetup553_slim.exe for YOU and even edit the screenshot to show you where to look.

    Now reply by saying

I don't have a Virus Total account to log into, and I'm not creating one just for this.

Then why are you using that scan result to answer a thread here on the forums?

Now, I have another concern with your reply.

What ESET finds and will likely always find is the 3rd party Google software packaged inside the Standard Installer, use the Slim Installer or the Portable ZIP instead.

I don't believe this has anything to do with Google. (photo below)

This photo is about the Slim Installer.

Please, if you are going to refuse to back up your claim, I suggest you don't answer the thread.

  8. This topic is not currently been answered.

I am seeing UI changes when opening Ccleaner to use. I opened Ccleaner to use and there was a Quick Scan icon ontop of the normal scan button. ( never seen that before ). What was weird is it went away all on its own back to normal. I did not uninstall that version and install another, it changed on the same version.

This is why I decided to remove all piriform related software from my PC now.

I see pop ups appearing. I am reading the pop up is only supposed to happen once and go away. There is discussion to block the cookie, there is no cookie to block or accept in the list of Cookies in Ccleaner.

When I scan the ccsetup553 it either shows a trojan or virus. Even on the 'slim' version, if I scan it and expand it, it shows a positive.

There are files related to rus . The countries vary in the expansion of each of the 3 files that the file is 'related' to.. sending information or talking to.

Basically, it is about time this gets answered.

    W** is going on?

EDIT: to add... I have been in contact with Email support.. " we need to make money somehow " is the basic end of the discussion regarding the pop up.

  9. For some reason, today I scanned again the ccsetup553_slim.exe and get a positive hit on VirusTotal..

Same file IN my PC. Yesterday nothing, today 1 thing.

Compare it to yesterdays (above post) you see the second photo (expanded view) sure has a few more things.

Keep in mind, I have to say this again, This is a the same file IN MY PC that I scanned yesterday.

How is it more things are showing up in the expanded view today then yesterday?

Is it the site has more feedback and is smarter on the scan showing more things?

Is it now that the pop up consistently happened to install junk in the file? a trojan or something to search for this file to add more stuff?

I'm so confused why now it shows a positive on a file already downloaded in the PC and opened to set up Ccleaner. Does the program Ccleaner reconfigure this file?

  10. EDIT: I  temporary resolved the issue. Disconnect from the internet when opening Ccleaner. Pop up does NOT appear.

I read about this fix: HERE

    I am using ccsetup553_slim.exe

    https://download.ccleaner.com/slim/ccsetup553_slim.exe

I am getting the pop up.

This pop up happens every time I open Ccleaner.

The settings below have always been these settings, I never had an issue before.

I have noticed some things in previous versions scanning with VirusTotal. This slim version 553 seems clean of 'suspected' 'icons' issues.

I'm not sure what is included to cause the pop up. I don't know how or what to block in a firewall. I don't see "ipm-provider.ff.avast.com" listed anywhere, as others mentioned.
