    Startup issues

Brand new to this forum. Just downloaded CCleaner yesterday. Several things are happening to my computer. I don't know if the problems are caused or related to this. But maybe you techno geeks can help me. I have a sony Vaio laptop with XP home. A couple of weeks ago had to do a complete reinstall of the OS. Yesterday I downloaded a bunch of XP1 updates around the same time as CCleaner. I also downloaded Firfox with several extensions. At some point in all this activity my desktop started going haywire. 1. The desktop goes nuts on reboot. All my icons jump to the left side and line up, the quick launch toolbar goes away and the windows boot up sound chimes in after all this happens. I am able to move my icons back and restore the quick launch toolbar, but only until the next reboot( occasionally though the desktop will just glitch and everything goes to the state I have described. My feeling is that my bootup sequence is skewed? 2. I figured I could fix this by installing SP2. Downloaded it. During the install phase it gets to "Checking product key" and stops. The CPU goes to 100% and stays there. The only way to get out of this lock up is to power down. There ya go you guys. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Bill
