  1. Thank you, sir. I appreciate your candor, and your answer, as well as the refrain from so many childish insults I have encountered on the many boards I have visted. Bravo, sir! I salute you. (tips hat)
  2. ...that is described with the paid version with the free version? This makes it sounds like the program is doing a half-assed job becaues you got something for free. What, specifically, is the difference between regular cleaning and "complete" cleaning? Because I'd really like to know or if I have to buy another program that doesn't make you feel left out because you wanted something for free. What, exactly, does the free version leave behind? Thanks.
  3. One reaches a point of futility, and just gives up. Which I hate doing, but sometimes there is no solution. I just use the outdated, older version and hope that I'm not missing out on any of the improvements. There is no way I'm going to let Microsoft usher me into a new computer and a new operating system when mine is working just fine, and a lot faster, too, because I have deleted all the bloatware and minimized my startup programs. I just want to be able to click on a scanned .exe file and have it work, that's all.
  4. Same deal in safe mode. I already tried that. THE. UPDATE. FILE. WILL. NOT. OPEN. ???? !!!!!
  5. I ran a full scan with windows defender. No issues. I ran a full scan with CCleaner. No issues. I ran a full scan with Malware bytes. No issues I ran a full scan with Adware Cleaner. No issues. I ran a full scan with Norton Power Eraser. No issues. MY. SYSTEM. IS. NOT. INFECTED. PERIOD. THE. NEW. DEFRAGLER. UPGRADE. WILL. NOT. OPEN. PERIOD. ?????? !!!!!!!
  6. I use no antivirus. At all. Call me stupid, but it just slows my system down. User account control is off. DEP is off. No Symantec, McAffee, Nothing, just windows Defender, not real time. Yes, I tried the portable version. Nothing works. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. Nothing higher than version 2.19.98 opens. The update file refuses to open, back to square one. What is causing this? I have basically an open unsecure system and the file doesn't want to open, only the older version.
  7. Currently I am using 2.19.182 on Compaq Presario SR5601-P, Vista SP-1, 2 GB RAM, 4400+ Athlon dual core. When I click on the dfsetup221.exe file, nothing happens. I have user accounts disabled. Same thing when I run as administrator, nothing. Cursor turns to a circle and spins, then nothing. I cannot upgrade past the version I am using. I have DEP turned completely off, I have no problems with any other programs or updates. Same problem (even more problems) when I had SP-2, so I rolled back to SP-1 and have a much better, faster system. Clicking on the file/right clicking then pressing on run, nothing. It just won't execute. If I go back to the version I'm using, it opens, but it's the same version. Why won't the new version run on my (32-bit) system? ????? No valid reason why it shouldn't open.
  8. I've abandoned this product and removed it from my system and replaced it with another registry cleaner that runs perfectly. I don't have to debug anything. Thank you nevertheless for your responses.
  9. Windows defender active. No other AV. McAfee removed with the removal tool. Same for Norton. Too aggressive. Yes, I did try the portable mode and safe mode and the same thing happens. Nothing. CCleaner 5.14, 5.15 does not launch. Version 5.12 does. I don't know how to make it any clearer than that. Thank you for trying though, it's not the end of the world.
  10. Nope. Does the same thing. Both the regular file and the unzipped exe file do the same thing when double=clicked: nothing. The circle thingee goes around and nothing happens. ???? I guess I have to go back to reg mechanic or another program, this is ridiculous. Or back to 5.12.
  11. This forum is for Piriform, not windows, so please don't ask me why I am not running SP-2, but I will answer anyway. Once SP-2 is installed, updates no longer work (Windows Update). I've had to roll back to SP-1 twice, and now I just turn updates off and security center off and my computer has never been faster at booting up (35 seconds total) or shutting down (25 seconds total). Anway, the last version of CCleaner I got to work on my computer (Compaq Presario SR5601-P) was 5.12. After I downloaded version 5.14, the little circle thingee on the cursor spun around and nothing happened. Tried again, nothing happened. I have user account control turned off, even though I am the administrator, there are no permissions required. I had a copy of version 5.12 on my jump drive, and it installed and worked perfectly. Why won't the latest version run on my system? The download just refuses to open.
