So I had an idea for a Skype entry, but wasn't for sure if it was good.
I was looking at the folder located in C:\ProgramData\Skype, or C:\Users\AllUsers\Skype for XP systems, and noticed there is nothing useful in that folder. So I figured we could get rid of this entry:
[skype Installers*]
LangSecRef=3022
Detect=HKCU\Software\SkypeDefault=False
FileKey1=%CommonAppData%\Skype|SkypeToolbars.msi|RECURSE
FileKey2=%CommonAppData%\Skype\*|Skype.msi|REMOVESELFand instead, create a FikeKey in this entry:
[skype More*]
LangSecRef=3022
Detect=HKCU\Software\SkypeDefault=False
FileKey1=%AppData%\Skype|*.lck;*.lock;cookies.dat|RECURSE
FileKey2=%AppData%\Skype\*\*cache|*.*|RECURSEthat cleans out that entire directory, rather than how the Skype installers just cleans out parts of it. What do you guys think? I didn't do it because I thought maybe there was a reason why that wans't done already?
The FileKey would be FileKey3=%CommonAppData%\Skype|*.*|RECURSE

You forgot to update the date on the Winapp2 homepage. Just thought I would let you know.
-
I don't think the AMD one should be touched. I can't seem to find the .mp4 file on my system at all and judging where the location of the .wmv file is, I would say it is risky.
I don't know about the Sprint logs since I don't use that.
-
Sorry. Bleachbit, by default, is default-false and it removed the default=false parts off winapp2 to help save space. I must have forgotten to readd those there.
EDIT: I edited my entries and fixed those.

-
You are right mta. People might just think warnings have less meaning then. Besides, who wants to go through Winapp2 and add a warning to all the cache entries.
-
I have a question/suggestion. Do you think it would be a good idea to add warnings to cache files saying something like "Removing these files may slow down the application" I just ask because files like caches and temp files are actually meant to speed up programs.
-
@Coffee4Jow: That could be it. I will have a look into it, although, I am not getting this issue with other chrome/firefox special entries.
-
Yes, I have firefox. I have never had Chrome or Adblock Edge. I have Adblock Plus, though.

I am getting these 2 entires on my system, even though I have never had these on my system before:

Should say Added FileKey 3 and 4. Also, I would like to see the reasons why entries get removed.
-
@Nergal: Thank you for your response, but in my opinion, no entry should be Default=True simply because a person should learn what any and all entry does first before they decide to clean it, even if CCleaner was for sure that the entry was 100% harmless. I understand you are not a developer and this is ofcource, just my opinion.
EDIT: Sorry about the off topic discussion.

EDIT:
[Vuze More*]
LangSecRef=3022

FileKey2=%AppData%\Azureus\plugins\progressbar|*.txtFileKey3=%ProgramFiles%\Vuze|*.log

Added FileKey 3 and 4. Also, I wanted to ask, why doesn't CCleaner automatically set the Default values to false? That way, you don't have to put Default=False in every entry.
-
Aren't the ones located in Appdata/Local/Temp already being cleaned by CCleaner? Also, I would assume if they aren't being cleaned, then no one has ever made entries for them.
-
I can help you set it up on Github if you want me to. You can email me and I will guide you through it.
-
Hey, come on guys. No fighting. SMalik has been a good addition to Winapp2 keeping it alive and maintained and Nergel is a good moderator who helps keep the forums clean. Let's put it behind us now and keep working on Winapp2 together.
New entry:
[Rage*]
Section=Games
Detect=HKCU\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps\9200Default=False
Warning=This will remove the cache files that are created after you appled the high resolution patch.
FileKey1=%AppData%\id software\rage|*.*|RECURSE
Assuming I did this right, this entry is for people who did the high resolution patch for rage. It was not included in any update patches and needs to be done manually. After you did the high resolution patch, you are told to create the folder manually which is where cache files will being dumped. Just incase if any of you asked what this entry is.
-
In addition to dvdbane, this entry can also be removed:
[Firefox Console Log*]
LangSecRef=3026
SpecialDetect=DET_MOZILLA
FileKey1=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox|console.logAlready included in Firefox Logs entry.
-
@dvdband: Those entries are different, but it would be a good idea to just combine them.

I wasn't sure which those entries belong, so I just threw them with the browser cache. Is there anyway we can just combine all the steam cache sections into one, rather then having 3 seperate. I do think it will harm anything. Also, I do not know if those 2 FileKey's are the same for everyone, but those are just cache files I found at those locations. Someone should investigate to see if those apply to everyone or if they are different for everyone.
@qsdewa: No, they haven't used that path for a very long time now. I think the first versions of steam did, but not sure.

Well I inspected some of those entries. They seem to be wiping the games completely and all the maps along with it, however, the game can be redownloaded again when you restart OpenRA. This does not affect disk space in anyway, however, so I don't think its necessary to add the game content for each of those entries to Winapp2. The custom maps, however, might not be good either and I feel that should be done with the user and not Winapp2. Just my opinion, ofcourse.

What Anti-Virus do you use
in Windows Security
Posted
Well I have an interest story for you guys I figured I would share.
My very first Anti-Virus was Nortons, but I have to say, I am glad I no longer that anymore. After that,I moved onto MalwareBtes, Avast and Superantispyware and became a malware hunter for them. I was with them for a long time, until lthis company called ZeroVulnerabilityLabs (ZVL) emerged and I left the other companies and decided to join them. They were the company responsible for ExploitShield, which is now called Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit after they bought out ZVL. I then left Malwarebytes and joined ClamAV, ClamWin, BleachBit, and Clam Sentinel and got into open-source software and bcame a "open-source junkie". Now I work for all of them, except for ClamAV, I am just a signature maker for them, and have been happy with them ever since.
ClamWin/ClamAV has made some major changes these past few months, dramaticly improving detection ratios that was introduce in .98 and .99 (currently in beta at ClamAV). Once ClamAV .99 comes out of beta, ClamWin will then release their beta version of .99 and once it has been released, we should be seeing some major improvments in detection.
I guess I am the only one who voted for ClamWin, too, haha.
