You WIN! Safe Mode allowed Defragler to work. When I determine the culprit, I'll post again.

More New Information: I re-installed Version 2.13; I ran CHKDSK; I defragged the "open space", and it worked; I tried a standard defrag, and it stalled at 5% complete (14% fragmented).

Nergal: Defragler stalls at 4% complete, not 4% fragmentation.

Thank you, I have downloaded Version 2.12. ...windows.edb was the stalling point for Version 2.12. I will reload Version 2.13, to see if it is the same file.

New information: I installed Version 2.12. Defragler still stalls at 4%. The file that is visible is: ...windows.edb

I am running Windows XP. First, I run CCleaner --- no problems. Then, I run Defraggler. It gets to 4% and will continue forever, if I let it. It eliminated 6 fragmented files, and 35 fragments. My fragmentation is 12%, and I still have 2,295 fragmented files and 24,582 total fragments. I reinstalled defragler. No change. I downloaded a clean install file; installed defragler; no change. Version 2.12 worked fine. Is there a way to download its install file?
