This sounds like something I'd really be interetested in trying.
Can anyone tell me how many system resources are used by the program itself, or how much RAM is used?

I recently saw a-squared Free on File Hippo and had not seen it mentioned on this forum much at all. When are people's opinions of this software, and is something I should consider part of my anti-spyware arsenal?

Any good history book will tell you that Niagara Falls has indeed frozen solid more than once in recorded history...
The falls themselves have frozen, and one time an ice backup upstream stopped the flow of water over the falls completely.
I have a book of weather phenomena that describes these instances in detail.

I am going to try the JKDefrag. How do you install the GUI? Unzip it to the same folder as JKDefrag?
If you download the first GUI that is listed on Kessel's site, it will come with the GUI app as well as JkDefrag itself with all necessary files. So just unzip it all in one folder.

I know what ones are out there. After much reviewing I have narrowed it down to the two I mentioned. I just want to know if any body has experienced any problems with those two similar to the problems that are discussed in the link I provided.
Since both programs have been discussed in-depth recently, you should be able to find what you're looking for by searching.
Personally, I use both and run them often. JkDefrag has the advantage of going beyond defragging by "optimizing" the disk, but Auslogics is definitely faster. My experience has been completely positive with no problems whatsoever.

Most Windows defraggers use the standard Windows API.

We've had a gazillion threads on defraggers lately so I'll just make a quick list. Auslogics Defrag (as mentioned above), JkDefrag, O&O Defrag 2000, Sysinternals Contig, and Sysinternals PageDefrag (for paging files etc).

What brand of router do you have? If it's a Linksys or Actiontec I can get help you setup a local static IP using either 2000 or XP. Unless that's not your problem anymore.

I read through this thread and am not sure I know exactly what is going on, but I thought I should clarify one thing. A static IP can refer to the router's IP that is connected to your ISP, as well as your PC's IP that is connected to your router. Most ISP's require your router to be automatically assigned an IP when it connects; this is something you cannot usually change. However, it IS possible to tell you PC to use the same static IP every time it connects to your router, rather than having the router dynamically assigning one using DHCP. Hopefully I have not stated the obvious here.

The backup created by CCleaner does not back up the entire registry. It only creates a backup for the entries it is about to remove, therefore making it easy for those entries to be restored. That is why the file size is so small.

Thanks for the link! It worked perfectly. I knew 2000 was out of mainstream support, but I assumed that since it is in the "extended" phase with critical fixes still being released, that this issue would be taken care of as well.

I have Windows 2000 Pro and have the auto time synchronization activated. However, even after manually changing the system clock to reflect the recent move to DST, it automatically resets back to EST. I've tried changing settings like the "auto adjust clock for DST" option with no success. I've even tried changing the NIST server that the auto update service connects to. Can anyone help me out here?
BTW, the auto sync service is "hidden" in 2000, so HERE is a link on how to set it up.

That's the thing, I've had extensions auto-updated before and it was much different than that. What happened yesterday was exactly what happens when FF itself is update. For example, when it restarted it checked for compatibility with extensions...
Is it possible my browser has been hacked in some way?

Yesterday I got a message from FF saying an update had been downloaded and that it needed to be restarted to install the update. However, after it restarted I noticed I was still using version 2.0.0.2 (which is what I already had). This is kind of strange to me and I was wondering what this update was?

Media-Convert is indeed a great tool, however its a little too simplistic for my needs. Without offering many options for controlling the bit rate etc., it makes it hard to control file size which is very important for cell phones.

I've been trying to use SUPER to convert MP3 and OGG files to 3GP for use on my cell phone for ringtones. However, I keep getting an error saying "ffmpeg.exe created an error and will shutdown" or something similar. Can anyone recommend some free software that will allow me to convert my audio files? Thanks!

I just downloaded this firewall, but so far am not passing GRC's test. It says the reason for this is my PC is responding to ping requests. How do I block pings using this firewall?

Before the update HostsMan listed the number of entries in the hosts file as 13,922, but after the 03-03-07 update its down to 13,918. Is it normal for entries to be removed from hosts files after an update?

I used to have 113 returned as "closed" since I use IRC a lot (about the only thing that uses 113 anymore), and I closed it by forwarding that port to a non-existent IP using my router. After that, I was 100% stealthed. You can try that with your closed ports, but I can't guarantee everything on your computer will work with all those ports stealthed as certain apps may be using them.

Does anyone know if the extension Media Player Connectivity will allow you to play on-site flash videos in a player of your choice? I am thinking specifically of sites like YouTube.

RootkitRevealer is good at detecting rootkits, but does not help remove them.

I don't have wireless, but when I noticed my gf's network only had WEP, I quickly changed it to WPA and experienced no difference in speed.
