I have read with interest the posts above and, as always at the Piriform forums, quite amazed at the level of knowledge and degree of civility with which the discussions unfold.
I am a participant in the test program for the new MSE (pre-release). I run it on 2 computers that use Windows 7 Home Premium and both of which have the current version of CCleaner. Prior to becoming a member of the testing program, I did not use MSE. I have used Cleaner since 2009.
1) On one device, in CCleaner, the MSE and Security Client boxes are checked. On the other device, same model and make, they are not checked. The results are different, as you might expect. I do get the yellow, "Your system is potentially at risk. You haven't run a scan recently." warning on the PC that has the MSE boxes checked. I do not on the other.
However, on the relevant device, the one with the CCleaner boxes checked for MSE, I only get the warning periodically and with no clear indication why. ( I should note that while it seems possible from his/her post, at least one contributor to this thread is also part of the testing, I don't feel comfortable sharing what has been relayed to me by Microsoft Research Dept. as a result of a bug in the pre-release program, but the following information from them seems to apply to all versions of MSE ). MSE is creating logging data that is stored in more than one location during any period when it is running Real TIme. If a user-initiated scan is run during this time, data related to the functionality of the scan itself MAY also be recorded and stored in a 3rd location. This information is time and date stamped at the onset and conclusion of the scan.
Regardless of the outcome of the scan and any subsequent actions taken by the user, the functionality data remains in a file that is routinely scanned and cleaned by CCleaner. ( 3.23.1823 is the version I am using). As far as I can determine, this is why I get periodic rather than routine "yellow" alerts from MSE after using CCleaner.
On a brief personal note: I do wish I were able to visit the forums more often and post some of my issues. That having been said, I am quite grateful for all the advice so freely and generously offered. I pass it on to all my friends on whose PC's I am pleased to say CCleaner is happily cleaning away.
