I ran CCleaner the other day as part of regular maintenance before backup imaging. I had Firefox open at the time and CCleaner told me it couldn't process Firefox contents while it was open. I wasn't concerned about that, so ignored the message. After finishing the maintenance, I when back into Firefox, to discover that all my bookmarks (collected over some 11 years) were gone! Finally, after considerable searching through Mozilla forums, I found that some how a new default folder of bookmarks had been created and that mine had been sidelined. Was not able to make my old folder the default one, but was able to copy my old bookmarks into the new folder. Hope this helps someone who finds themself in the same predicament.
The above has been a wind up to my current predicament. At the same time that happened, I lost file association to the Internet shortcuts on my desktop. If I try to launch them, I get a message saying there is no association for that type and that I need to create an association via Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types. I have done this repeatedly, but the desktop shortcuts still produce the same error message. However, if I have Firefox open and click on one of the destop shortcuts, it works! I have no idea how to get around this. I am a long time second level support tech and have never encountered anything like this. Any suggestions??
