to keep it simple and have a trusted program like Revo do the hard work for you would be my recommendation.
as stated, I've tried it and it does what you want, and it's free
added benefit is it creates a restore point before each 'clean' so there is always that safety net.
of course, you could just leave the entries there in CC, they aren't causing any problems.
most of the entries that CC continues to show that have physically been removed come from the CURRENT_USER\Software registry hive key.
so, if using Revo, when I wanted an old Foxit entry wiped from the list I had to tell Revo to search for Foxit Reader which is what is was known has in the registry.
always weigh up the current problem against any potential problems caused by trying to remedy the original problem. (you know what i mean)
as with any excursion into the Registry - take care.
Thanks to all...finally got it all cleaned up....been using REVO for years...yes...it's a great program....had to also do a little registry search and destroy to get rid of all entries...thanks again to all...

The best way to remove the programs (from the ccleaner list) is this 1 open command prompt 2 run ccleaner command line like this "c:\program files\ccleaner.exe" /export 3 open the resulting file (found in ccleaner's program folder) winapp.ini in a text editor (such as notepad or notepad++) 4 search for (ctrl+f) each entry you want removed. 5 using the line that says either detect or detectkey as a guide, find on your computer either the file or registry key referenced and remove it from the computer. In step 2 the quote marks are required but replace c:\program files\ with the location of your ccleaner exe and ccleanet.exe with ccleaner64.exe if you are on a 64 bit machine.
Well...no joy so far...there's no "detect" or detectkey entries....here's the entries just for Opera in winappini :

I've searched both the pc and the entire registry for both N_OPERA_CACHE & DET_OPERA and no luck except in the exported winapp.ini file in CCleaner directory.
Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong in trying to delete the non-used CCleaner entries in my original post ?
Thanks...TiminAz

Looked in the on-line documentation but there's nothing listed for the latest addition to "options"....what exactly does "Stop VSS when defragging NTFS volume" due?
and, also on the Win 7 Pro 64bit machine...the option to "Enable Shell Extensions" is also grayed out...can I get this option working in Win 7 Pro 64bit ?
Thanks....TiminAz

My trusty Defraggler will no longer allow me to setup 'boot time defrag' ?
I get the pop up window attached...have tried to run defraggler64.exe every which way possible as administrator but same message appears ?
I "think" this started after the latest update.
Running Defraggler dfsetup210.exe ( version V2.10.413 )
How do I get Defraggler running at boot time again ?

Does using CCleaner 's "wipe free space" have any cause/effect on later running Defraggler to optimize your drive ? Any relationship between Defraggler Advanced 'Defrag Free Space' and/or 'Defrag Free Space/Allow fragmentation' and CCleaner Wipe Free Space option ?
Docs:
"By defragmenting the free space on your hard drive, you will improve Windows' performance when writing new files. You'll also help prevent new files from being fragmented. To defragment the free space on your hard drive:
-
In the Drive section at the top of the Defraggler window, right-click the drive to defragment, and then click Advanced.
-
Click Defrag Freespace or Defrag Freespace (Allow fragmentation).
If you select Defrag Free Space, Defraggler will fill up freespace chunks with whole files only. If you select Defrag Free Space (Allow fragmentation), Defraggler will use file fragments to fill up freespace. You can also tell Defraggler not to move large files around while it's defragmenting free space. For more details, see this topic. Which option should you use? If you want your freespace to be as defragmented as possible, choose Defrag Free Space (Allow fragmentation). If you want to reduce the amount of fragmentation in your current files, choose Defrag Free Space."
Does "Wiping Free Space prior to or after Defraggler Defrag Free Space have and effects either pro or con ?
Thanks....TRinAZ

Can someone explain why in my drive map(s) when using Defraggler that the map shows a whole lot of "free space" between blocks of defragged data as in defrag_blocks.jpg ??
and, why is "enable shell extensions" greyed out on my options/advanced panel as in defrag-options.jpg ?
Defraggler v2.08.373 (64-bit)

I don't understand the attached picture? is this the resulting logs from debug3?
Yes...these are two consecutive debug/3 logs requested originally by Hazelnut above. They are/were too large to upload to the forum. Since there was no response initially to my above on the log size issue post...I figured no one had an answer so I tried again in Debug forum. Please remove that topic and as you requested we will continue here.
Attached is the debug /1 log...it appears to me that it has something do do with selecting "move large files to end of drive" option. I can get Defraggler to run OK after removing all custom options and defragging 2 or 3 times...including a couple "Defrag free space" runs
Once Defraggler is running OK...I can re-enable the Advanced "Custom defragmenting"..." and "stop VSS...." but keep "move large files to end" deselected...Defraggler seems to execute normally.
But after enabling "move large files to the end" and Defragging....I again get the "Defraggler stopped working pop-up error ?
Before "Custom defragmenting"..." and "stop VSS...." were added in the last updates....I had no issues running Defraggler with the "move large files to end" option.
Thanks...TRinAZ

The last two versions of Defraggler have caused an ongoing issue with my Win 7 Pro 64bit system. I regularly get a pop up saying "A problem has caused Defraggler to stop working"
This seems to be related with the new options on the Options/Advanced setting...particularly regarding either or both the VSS option and/or the "use custom fragmenting settings" This appears to be conflicting with the "Move Large Files"in Options/Defrag
Have attached 2 debug/3 zip files showing both a complete defrag and the "stopped working" defrag/3 when the "Move Large Files" option is selected
Any ideas on how to keep Defraggler from stopping will be appreciated.
Thanks...TRinAZ
p.s. continued from earlier post ( http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=34670&st=0&gopid=208392& ) debug /3 option would not upload do to file size...

Any chance you could run it in debug mode and get logs for the developers?
Info here on how to do this
Have same issue with Win 7 Pro 64 bit desktop. Running debug3 now.
Do I post the logs here or send them somewhere else ?
Thanks...TRinAZ

In Defraggler...can you:
1) continue working while Defraggler is running as you can with Windows defragging ?
2) Is there any harm and/or benefit running Defraggler as Administrator ?
Running Win 7 Pro 64bit
Thanks....Tim

Is there a way in Win 7 Pro 64bit to eliminate the UAC pop up window when running either CCleaner or Defraggler ? I have tried running as administrator but still get the pop ups ?
Doesn't work very well when CCleaner runs at start-up...have to click the UAC window before I can continue ?
Thanks...TRinAZ

>>Is your free space really fragmented? What files are they? Do they belong to the folder System Volume Information?<<<
>>Which files are the ones that remain fragmented? Could you provide a list of the biggest ones? <<<<
Cogitate & Knapp.IN: I didn't def rag the free space. Is that what is causing the 53% remark? The laptop had to go on a vacation, so I have to wait until it's return next week to get the list of files. I do remember System Volume Information listed among them. I post again when I have the list of files.
Thanks for the replies.
Gail
HI...had this issue with all my PC's XP Pro -Win 7 Pro - XP Home Edition. Found the following to eliminate the massive fragmented issues after degrag:
Under Action/Advanced...run Check drive for errors (may not be necessary but I do this step as #1 anyway)
Run CMD as Administrator - then type the following: chkdsk /f
Select 'Y' from y/n options
Type exit
When you reboot Windows will run a disk check and minor repair operation...when windows loads...try Defraggler again. 99.9% of the time all my systems analyze/defrag without errors.
Note: most of my fragmentation before running above steps is also System Volume Information...but not always...also have to do above steps after weekly backup or I also get 20-50% fragmentations after system backup is run.
Hope this is helpful...??

My one Win 7 Pro 32bit machine seems to be much slower than my other 3 machines. I noticed today while defragging this PC that the system seems to also be defragging a network drive that contains all downloaded program/application setup/install files
I use HOME_DESKTOP as a network drive (G:) to help keep my PC's uncluttered with duplicate application setup/install files.
Is this Win 7 32 bit PC actually defragging the G: drive (on different PC setup) while defragging the C: drive on this PC ?
And if so...how do I prevent this ?
None of the other 4 PC's auto defrag the Networked G: drive when running a full C: drive defrag ?
I am not caching any of the drives in Options

Is there a way to save or keep a record of what files are listed in Registry Cleaner under various cleaning options ? Can you save a text or xml file or something of the items/keys...etc...that are listed on the screen for possible "cleaning" for future reference ?
Thanks...Tim

Just installed CCleaner...have read the help files...FAQ...and docs but have a question...?...if I clean out some reported orphaned entries using CCleaner Registry tool...and save the backup as suggested...what do I do if after a restart I have issues resulting from the Registry "cleaning" ?
Is it as simple as running regedit/file/import ?
And what is the procedure if after re-boot following a CCleaner Registry oepration...Windows 7 Pro 64 bit will not load/start ? Is there a way to replace the backed up Registry 'outside' of Windows
Thanks...Tim
