  1. Hi all with the suggestion of Rip:

In regards to your Hard Drives, I recommend that you create a new topic in this forum, where one of the experts can better assist you on that issue.

Because of an issue that he said:

If you haven't had any malware issues before this, it's possible your just having issues with your hard drive(s). Can you see about posting a HijackThis log, and possibly a MalwareBytes Anti-Malware scan log, as well?

It might be a wise idea to back up your data in the meantime, the backups can always be scanned by anti-virus software at a later date in time.

All the malware removal tools resulted in being no malware present.

    A bit ago I had a:

    Warning Event Notification

    Inside the box it says:

SMART has detected a problem with a Hard Disk Drive.

    1. Back up your data immediately.

    2. Contact your Help Desk or Dell Technical Support immediately.

    Never heard of this.

Can someone help and guide me on what and how to deal with this?

    Marc

  2. Hi all,

On some sites specifically certain discussion forums it takes an long time to load on my pc.

Take this one for instance it takes a very long time to load up.

What can I do to increase the load times?

    Thanks,

    Marc

  3. You mentioned you were trying to rip songs off of CDs into your iTunes. Just insert the CD in the drive with iTunes open, wait a moment and iTunes will ask if you want to import the disk. Click "yes" and the entire disk will be imported or click "no" and then you can put a check mark next to each individual track on the disk that you want to import and then click the "import" button. By default iTunes will import these as AAC files. If you want MP3 files then in iTunes click "edit" then "preferences" then "advanced" then "importing" and then click the arrow by "import using" and then click "MP3 encoder" and then click "ok" and then import the CD.

Hi David. The problem I have is my cd drive is not working therefore I'm not able to insert a cd at my home pc. So for now I have to do this at work.

What I want to do is to save the cd's as a mp3 file to my desk top at work. Then send the mp3 file to my email address at home. Then when I get home I can use my iPod and iTunes and therefore download the mp3's.

My iPod is not configured at my work pc so I don't want to mess with it there.

So what steps do I need to do? I thought that I did but the files were cds files.

  4. A "cda" file is not really a file type at all -- it's simply a designation (pointer) that Windows uses to identity audio tracks on CDs. It cannot be copied to a harddrive or emailed -- it must be read and subsequently ripped (in some other format) directly from the CD-ROM.

    Hi Tom,

How do I rip a cd into an mp3 format?

  5. Hi all and Happy Thanksgiving to those that live the USA.

I have a question. First there is something wrong with my cd drive at home so I'm not able to play cd's currently. I wanted to download some cd's so I did it at work. Saved them and sent an email to myself with attachements.

At home on my pc I can't even play them, but at work I'm able to open them and play them.

The files are cda files. I want to download the cd's to my iPod. For some reason I can't. Is it possilbe I need to convert the cda's to another format so I can download them to iTunes and then to my iPod?

    Need some help.

    Marc

  7. Would like to know why it takes so ling for my pc to re-boot and how I can fix the problem.

Also for some reason when my pc re-boots it goes to an admin window then I have to click on that window to get online. How can I avoid doing this so that my pc re-boots right to my desk top?

  8. Hi all I have a Dell system that is 5 years old. Seems to be running fine. It's a OptiPlex GX 240.

Don't want to buy a new PC.

  9. Hi all just want to make sure I'm on the right track here.

    I have:

    EZ Anti-Virus

    AVG Anti-Spyware (Formerly Ewido)

    BitDefender's Online scan

    HiJackThis

    This is all I have.

Don't Spybot, Adaware, Windows Defender, Spyblaster.

    Marc

  10. Hi folks,

How do we know when there are new versions of Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Ad-Aware?

Reason I ask is because although I would "update" Spybot and Spywarre Blaster I wasn't aware that there were new versions to download til it was brought to my attention.

    Thanks,

    Marc

  11. Hi folks I have MS AntiSW set to run at a certain time.

Don't know if this has to do with the MS AS scan...

When I get up and close the window it seems to close "slowly" almost and I say almost freezing. It closes very slow, the window.

Then my pc seems to run slow for a bit. Then after a while my pc seems to start running better as I use it.

Does this have to do with the MS AS scan?

    Marc

  12. Hi all seems when our kids surf alot of webpages, check out pictures and watch web based video and audio our pc seems to run slow. (They like to watch alot of videos from wwe.com and looks at lot of pic's from various toy soldier websites)

What can I do when this happens to get our pc running at it's best?

    Marc

  13. How about Spyblaster...

What's it suppose to do? How does it work?

I have it because it's part of CC's spyware removal guide.

Why do we need so many programs?

    Marc

CWShredder finds and destroys traces of CoolWebSearch only (browser hijackers).

So just be glad it never finds anything !

  14. Thanks!

About CWShredder it doesn't seem to find anything. Ad-Aware will often find something and remove it(most likely from our kids surfing) which is OK with me as long as Ad-Aware finds it and removes it.

What's the purpose of CWShredder does it work or is it a waste?

Although cookies don't take up much drivespace (1 kb each), I agree with hazelnut ... set CCleaner to save the essential ones and wipe the rest. Most cookies are harmless but some are data miners and potential threats to your privacy.

  15. Glenn when I run the cleaner I don't have it delete cookies because I have alot of sites that I have the username and password saved...

How much does cookies have to play in the maximization of my pc?

    Marc

It means that a reference to a deleted shortcut (.lnk file) was left behind during the uninstall ... a very common occurrence. Let CCleaner fix it. Personally, I wouldn't bother to back it up.

  16. thanks, ran issues and this was in the window....

    A file referenced by a shortcut does not exist. File: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\PennConnect Applications\Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition.lnk

    Solution: Delete the shortcut file.

Now rrid. helped me get rid of Norton so I have no idea what this message even is about.

The Issues scan is CCleaner's Registry cleaning function. Windows' Registry becomes cluttered with old, invalid entries over time, and these can significantly slow down your computer. So yes, you should clean it.

CCleaner is probably the safest Registry cleaner around, but it's stll best to back up the entries it deletes. When you click "Fix selected Issues", you'll get a prompt asking if you want to back them up, all you'll have to do is choose a location. Once you gain experience with it you may learn to recognize entries that are safe to remove without backup, and it's actually very rare that the backups are needed, it's merely a precaution.

  17. Hi all what is an Issues Scan? What does it actually do?

I just ran one to see and didn't select to fix. Should we fix what CC finds? How will it help to maximize our pc's?

    Marc

  18. Hi incy, yes our pc does everything we want it to do.

When our kids want to play games, not very often, that's when we sometimes run into issues; computer slow. I assume it's because the CD takes up alot of space. Someone told me when they want to play a game, again not often, just install the game and when they're done un-install it. When they get into a run of playing games it's kind of a pain to install and re-install; time consuming.

But again mostly we all just use our pc to surf the web, check out different sites. I use it for my business. Often our kids like to play games, liten to audio on specific websites which are web-based games(don't have to download), etc.

Possibly I can look into adding more memory. I believe that our pc might have more "space" without spending a ton of money on a new pc.

What can we do to keep our pc maximized all the time? I do the suggested anti-spyware recommendations from this forum at least once/twice a week and run a disc defrag once a week.

    Marc

Does your pc do everything that you want ti to do?

Are you happy with the way it works if so, i would probably keep it til it finally goes bang !!! Don't spend the money on something that doesn't need it.
