Thanks. Double clicking produces the same result, i.e., the Notepad window with text. And "registry editor" is not an available option in "open with." BTW, my OS is Win XP Pro.

I want to restore a CCleaner registry backup .reg file. When I right-click on the .reg file and select "Merge," a Notepad window opens, containing text. What do I do with the text? Thanks for your help.
