  1. Hello, it has been a while since I have been here but I need to ask you a question. I have had the CCleaner on the lap top I always use but not on our Desk top Computer. I finally put the CCleaner on the Desktop and have a question about how the CCleaner works.

On the Desktop, I log in on my side of the computer and have the programs that I want to use, and my husband logs in on his side and has his programs he likes. When I use the CCleaner that I installed on my part of the computer does it clean the entire computer, does it go through all of his programs too? I know this may be a silly question but while the cleaning process was going on, I saw my name mentioned on some of the cleaned items but did not see my husbands. I did see the word "shared" but not sure it that only applies to our "shared documents and picture files" or all of the programs in the computer. Thank you for your help. Shibaboy

  2. What version of CCleaner are you using?

BTW, Internet Explorer 8 is notorious for slowing down other application.

..and Windows XP is practically the best Windows OS.. yet. (Just my IMHO)

Hello, I upgraded the version of the CCleaner I was using and it is now working properly. Thanks Shibaboy

  3. I have been using CCleaner for a while and recently started having a problem. When I start to clean the files, I see the files that are being selected to be cleaned, flash on the screen. However, the percentage number at the top of the screen that tells you how many files have been cleaned so far stays at 0% and the cleaner does not stop. It is only when I cancel the cleaner because it will not stop or shut off, does it give me the number of files that need to be deleted, however, they are still in the computer because I have not given it the command to clean them yet.

I have windows XP, and the only change to my computer is that I have upgraded my Internet Explorer to the newest upgrade.

I dont remember the cleaner working this way before. I remember it stopping when it had cleaned 100% of the files.

Thank you for your help. Shibaboy

  4. Leave MSXML 4.0 SP2 alone, it's a Microsoft Windows component that has absolutely nothing to do with the Photoshop installation and it may be a security update on your system downloaded by Automatic Updates.

If Photoshop is no longer installed on your system you "may be able to remove the Photoshop child subkey safely," take that as a caveat though and make a System Restore point before editing the registry as it's an easy way to get out of any trouble registry editing can or may cause. Note: Do not delete the Adobe parent key itself, leave it alone as it's required for things like Acrobat Reader (if you use that), Flash Player (you most likely use it), etc., which have nothing to do with Photoshop.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ADOBE\PHOTOSHOP

The username@qwest.com reference (which you should delete out of your other post if that's your email address) looks like an email address or cookie to me, or if you use Qwest as an ISP subscriber it may have something to do with your service, personally I wouldn't worry about it as it's not the issue and has nothing to do with Photoshop.

Andavari, I'd like to ask another question. Sorry! When I click on an item I think is the problem, there is an option of renaming the item. What can you rename an item. Does it have to be a technical name, having to do with the program, or can you rename it "anything"? Thank you, Bonnie

  6. I've just installed it again. Not a bad program, and under 15mb installed.

Dennis, boy do I wish I could use that because it would be all I would need in my life, but the class requires that you have a CS or better. If you absolutely cannot get a PhotoshopCS, the instructor will let you get by with an Adobe Photoshop 7.0, but she prefers you have the CS. The course doesnt take into account your experience level, the work is the same for all students. If your work isnt as good as others, it will show in your GRADES! I just want to pass the course so I can take digital photography.

I have worked my entire life, had a great career, but was forced to quit due to health reasons, but I have always loved photography but too busy with career. Now I have the time to take photography classes, just have to get past this little bump in the road.

I really appreciate the time you have taken trying to help me today. Bonnie

  7. OK Bonnie, we'll keep thinking of a way to help, and you keep popping your head in here.

Just out of curiosity, do you actually need a Photoshop program to do whatever it is you do, or would an alternative be of any use?

There are lots of very sophisticated freeware programs out there, and I use a couple myself. We can give you links to some very good free stuff if you think they might be of some use.

Hi Dennis, I want to take an entry level digital camera course at our college, and in order to take the course, you are required to take an Adobe Photoshop course first. I think they have that backwards, but they think otherwise! So, I have signed up to take the Adobe Photoshop course and want to know which program to purchase. I dont want to purchase too much of a program that I will never use it, but I also want to make sure that I dont purchase one that will not have all the tools I think I will need. I had tried the photoshop cs2 previously, but now I want to try the new one they have out, the CS4.

I did ask the instructor if I could use another program but she said it would not work. She cannot give instructions on a program she is not familiar with, or give different instructions to each student. Otherwise, I would certainly use one that is a freeware! That is my problem, so I am working on trying to get the CS4 while they are offering the 30 day trial for free, but thank you for the thought. Bonnie

  8. Hi Bonnie.

Don't pull your hair out, it's only a piece of software, and eventually I'm sure one of us will come up with a fix. I won't guess on those reg entries, I'll leave them for Andavari or one of the other guys who may recognize which is safe and which isn't.

One thing I would suggest is to download and install ERUNT, and make a backup of your entire registry before you start deleting stuff.

It's probably one of the best things you could add to your PC, as you can restore the entire registry very easily in the event of problems. A lot of us use it, and have it configured to make one fresh copy of the registry every day with the first logon of the day.

While we scratch our heads here, have you tried the Adobe Forums for a solution. I used to go there myself a while back when I used Photoshop SE, and the guys on there are very knowledgable, and may come up with something.

    Adobe Photoshop Forums:

But of course keep going with our efforts here as well.

Hi Dennis, I did install ERUNT as was recommended by one of you kind people, but I still want to be careful and not create more unfamiliar work for myself. I just finished using REVO to clean my recycle bin and c drive, so I will see what I end up with now!

I did ask Adobe for assistance but they would not answer my "real" question. I guess because I had an adobe trial previously, (however, it was a different level photoshop program, a cs2) they talk around my real question(how do I get Adobe photoshop out of my computer?) and have considered my case closed. That was the first place I went for help.

Thank you so much for your time. Bonnie

    1. To find remaining leftover remants of files you can try this:

    2. Enable the view of Hidden Files and Folders, it's in Folder Options from any open Window on your system.

    3. Look for any Photoshop remnants in the profile names for example:

      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data

      C:\Documents And Settings\Your Windows Profile\Application Data

      C:\Documents And Settings\Your Windows Profile\Local Settings\Application Data

      C:\Program Files

    • In the registry I'm guessing they'd be located in one of the locations:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Photoshop

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Photoshop

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Photoshop

Andavar, I found a few items I wanted to know if I should delete them. I don't know anything about these things and wanted your opinion if you dont mind.

  9. When you download a professional trial version of Photoshop CS1, 2, 3, or 4?, it comes with buried anally retentive specific instructions on how to correctly uninstall it.....which is the reason why I wish Adobe to die a horrible horrible "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" type of death. Adobe is not the same company it once was in the 90s. M'kay?

To get rid of Adobe remnants you need Erunt and RevoUninstaller.

Erunt is like System Restore but much more......better, for lack of words.

Revo Uninstaller is the ultimate ripper outter of yer system guts. (Thus the need for Erunt as back-up.) Revo gives you 4 options of uninstall. Normal uninstall, deeper, even deeper, and hells bells we're ripping your registry to shredded underwear! (I like that option but yes, do apply severe caution.)

I had to use the most devastating option of Revo to get rid of all those Photoshop MSIs that forever kept popping up in CCleaner no matter what.

Corona, I have installed both programs you suggested and have used Erunt, however, I have been searching for hours have no idea where to find the Photoshop CS2 application that is showing in the Windows, Application section of the CCleaner program. I thought it would be in Windows somewhere, but have looked around for a very long time and I dont have a clue. Any ideas I can try? I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you, Bonnie

Thank you, thank you, thank you, I have spent literally DAYS on this problem, and probably know all of my files, and know my computer overall better than I have ever known or wanted to know them since this started. I will be very careful. Thanks Bonnie

  11. Hi Bonnie, and welcome to Piriform.

I don't know too much about Photoshop, but maybe the info in this link will help. Aparently there is also a small extractor tool to be downloaded with photoshop trials.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...24012825AAkTAsk

If this doesn't help, post back here.

Goodmorning DennisD, I had known about the small extractor tool, but even so, I uninstalled everything I had installed on the photoshop program, went to this site, and reinstalled photoshop through their link. I still get a partial install. A long time ago, I read somewhere on an Adobe help page about something that was left in a users registry when they used one of their photoshop programs. Perhaps I have something left over in my registry from the photoshop cs2 program that I uninstalled? Would the "application" left for the photoshop CS2 program in my Application section in the Cleaner stop any Adobe Photoshop? I have no idea, just guessing at this point.

If you can think of anything I can try, I would appreciate it, if not, I appreciate the suggestions you have given me previously. Thanks, Bonnie

  12. Hey...no need to use all caps. You will get help. Don't worry. But this should be in the CCleaner forum section - Mod will move it sooner or later.

My ideas are to uninstall the old version, and then clean out the registry with CCleaner. Can you link us the offer before you do anything?

    AJ

Sorry my caps were on, probably due to age and that eye sight thing. Anyway, I already uninstalled the old version with the Control Panel, Add/Remove program function. Then cleaned out the registry with the CCleaner. I still cannot install the new program. Is there anything else that would stop the program from installing. I have gone through all of my files, used the Search function to make sure there were no Adobe Photoshop CS2 files left in the computer. The only file I find with that name is in the "application" section of the CCleaner. I have right clicked on it, it said analyze and clean, so I tried both.

I found the offer at "photoshopsupport.com". Is what you were asking me? They are offering a "Try Before you buy on any Adobe product for a 30 day trial. Thank you, Bonnie

  13. HI, I AM NEW TO CLEANING REGISTRY'S SO PLEASE EXCUSE ME IF I SOUND A LITTLE SLOW. I HAVE BEEN READING YOUR POSTS AND SOME ARE WAY BEYOND ME. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO INSTALL A 30 DAY TRIAL ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS4 FROM THE OFFICIAL ADOBE SITE, AND IT IS THEIR OFFER. I CAN DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM BUT I CANNOT INSTALL IT. I KEEP GETTING A PARTIAL INSTALL.

I HAVE CLEANED MY REGISTRY ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS BUT NOTHING FANCY. THERE IS AN APPLICATION FOR AN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS2 THAT HAS BEEN THERE FOR QUITE A WHILE AND I WONDER IF THIS IS STOPPING ME FROM INSTALLING THE NEWER ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS4 SOFTWARE? I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND NEED HELP!

I HAVE WINDOWS XP, AND NO LONGER HAVE THE PHOTOSHOP CS2 PROGRAM INSTALLED. THANK YOU, SHIBABOY, AKA, BONNIE
