  1. Actually the other way round ... Sonic Solutions bought the consumer products division of Roxio Inc. They seem to be using the Roxio brand for consumer products and using Sonic for their professional studio products.

    I think you can now adjust the gap down to zero but haven't even looked. We old farts are used to the silence between.

  2. I use the basic version of Sonic RecordNow (or did you mean another application?) and as far as I know it can't add music to a CD-R already recorded in Audio CD format. I don't know if the enhanced versions can.

    You have to assemble the music again (rip previous tracks from the CD and add new tracks in RecordNow) and burn it as a complete image. I've always burned to a new CD-R since there normally wouldn't be enough remaining recording space. Are you using CD-RW's?

  3. If you are using Internet Explorer, the following may be related:

    Each cookie appears to "exist" in two ways:

    1. the [username]@webaddress[1].txt file displayed in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Cookies

    2. the Cookie:[username]@webaddress/ in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files (this appears to be a mirror of the index.dat rather than real files)

    Check your two folders and see if the lists match.

    The two lists normally match each other, but can go out of synch. I had that happen today and there were several .txt's in the first folder for which there were no corresponding items in the second folder.

    I know the cause and it's not related to CCleaner but I found that only the "paired" cookies were displayed in the CCleaner Options > Cookies windows. Interestingly, when I ran CCleaner, it deleted all the .txt's in the first folder (except those selected to be saved in Options > Cookies).

    I've seen this mismatch happen before but hadn't connected it to this "bug" with CCleaner.

  4. I don't use FF but I'm confident that (unless you have bugs) IE6 cookies are cleaned, except those you selected to be saved in the Options > Cookies tab.

    As far as I know, an option is greyed out simply because it's not selected. CCleaner doesn't know if there are files to delete until you run at least the Analyze function.

    If in doubt, go to C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Cookies before and after running CCleaner. (This path is for IE6, I don't know which folder FF uses.) To see this folder, you have to set Folder Options > View > Advanced > Files and folders > Hidden files and folders: Show hidden files and folders.

  5. I haven't been using CCleaner very long but what I like is that, unlike some others of its kind, it has the Analyze function that lets you see what the various settings would do without actually deleting anything until you Run Cleaner.

    This should be ideal for someone like yourself that knows the specific files that are potential problems.

  6. Temporary files are cache files.

    Or did you have specific cache files in mind? See the Beginner Guide (pinned in Important Topics at top of Cleaner Discussion page).

  7. Have you checked Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > System Tools > Device Manager to see if the drives show up? If they do, check Properties for each. They could be disabled, you may need to reinstall or update the driver, etc.

    If they don't show, try Control Panel > Add Hardware. The Add Hardware Wizard will attempt to detect connected but "uninstalled" hardware, and install it or offer a troubleshooting dialog.

  8. My Recent Documents on the Start Menu isn't really a folder, it's a shortcut to the folder. Enabling it in Start Menu > Customize doesn't work because the target folder is missing.

    If I recall correctly, creating a new My Recent Documents folder won't work because that's not the correct name. I tried copying mine to another folder and deleting the desktop.ini. The folder name then showed as "Recent". The desktop.ini was:

    [.ShellClassInfo]

    InfoTip=@Shell32.dll,-12692

    IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll

    IconIndex=-21

    LocalizedResourceName=@shell32.dll,-12691

    I don't think it would hurt to try but get a second opinion. You'll have to determine how it got deleted.

    P.S.: I realized the desktop.ini might be the issue. If you have a C:\Documents and Settings\[userName]\Recent folder instead of a My Recent Documents folder, CCleaner or your other app may have deleted just the desktop.ini, not the whole folder.

  9. I checked the Wanaddo home page with IE6 without any problem but based on its design, I'm guessing that you are running a pop-up blocker. Did you install the Windows XP SP2 update? If so, check the pop-up blocker settings.

    Alternatively, you may have a bad/interrupted download of the page cached. Click Refresh. If it changes, check that your IE settings are Tools > Internet Options > General > Settings > Check for newer versions of stored pages: Every visit to the page

  10. In Windows Explorer > Tools > Options > Folder Options > View > Files and Folders, enable Show hidden files and folders.

    You should now be able to see C:\Documents and Settings\[uSERNAME]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. I recommend using the Details view. There may be a lot of files in the folder but if you sort by Name (Favicon.ico) or by Type (Icon), you can locate the icons quickly. If you've previously lost your icons, you may need to add the Favorites again to reload the icons. Copy the icons to a folder which won?t be cleaned, e.g., My Pictures > Icons. I would rename each, e.g., CCleaner.ico

    Then right-click a Favorite shortcut (in the Favorite folder or in the IE dropdown) and click Properties. In Properties, on the Web Document tab, click Change Icon. On the Change Icon panel, click Browse and navigate to the saved icon. Select it and click OK.

    You could just do the last step for any Favorite where the icon is already available, e.g., since the CCleaner icon is embedded in CCleaner.exe, if you navigate to C:\Program Files\CCleaner\cleaner.exe, it would be available there for use with a CCleaner Forum shortcut.

    I've never tried amdeadlink but this method allows you to customize any shortcut, e.g., Desktop folders, Start Menu program folders (use the Properties > Customize tab or the Properties > Shortcut tab depending on type).

  11. Good clarification by englishmen:

    By "If you could specify the file names and path for CCleaner to check on your USB memory ... ", I meant you'd have to set up Options > Custom.

    I don't know if that's possible for a non-system drive and doesn't seem worthwhile unless it's a recurring need.

  12. Alternatively:

    While you are connected to a site or before you clear Temporary Internet Files, go to Temporary Internet Files and copy the icon files to a folder on your computer. You may want to rename each (they usually default to favicon[1].ico).

    Then go to your Favorites shortcut > Properties > Change Icon and select the saved icon.

    You can also use icons already stored with applications, e.g., you can use the icon in CCleaner.exe for the shortcut to this forum. You can use a library of icons to customize any of your shortcuts ... Favorites, Start Menu, Desktop.

  13. dande, I think hazelnut identified the problem ... "scan" is too general a term

    Anyone else feel free to jump in but ...

    CCleaner locates and allows you to delete specific types of files (typically operating system and application temp / log / cache folders and files). It also identifies and allows you to fix specific types of registry issues. Neither function is likely to be useful for a non-system drive. If you could specify the file names and path for CCleaner to check on your USB memory, you would know if the files are there.

    If you want to see what's on your USB memory, Explorer (with appropriate view settings) will show most things. File recovery software such as Undelete or Restoration will reveal files that have been deleted but not erased.

    If you want to erase / wipe / shred files on your USB memory, use a file shredder such as Eraser (or the tool in Restoration).
