  1. Laptops are different animals from "normal" motherboards. All depends what chips were installed. The manufacturer can install any chips even though parts of it are not used.

  2. Found problem. It was permissions for my C:\Temp folder. One reason for changing, is that some program updates, are put into a \temp folder. Copy to a usb flash drive and run on other computers. Every other computer SP1 was an update. This one came with SP1. Could be some kind of Administrator thing.

    Happynes is Windows !!

  3. Thank you, I will try that. Only machine with the problm. While it shouldn't make any difference, the capitol letters were different in the two c:\temp locations Temp vs temp' . I have corrected that, uninstalled CC. Will try portable first and see what happens and then reinstall and test.

Do you know if CC uses the registry to find the Temp folders ? If it does, could be something there although everything is going to C:\ Temp the way I want.

  4. On a new install, Windows 7 pro (OEM) doesn't clean temp files.

In the past I changed Environmental Variables for temp and tmp to C:\temp

This has worked for every install but this one including XP.

I like all temp files to be in one place which help searching for temp files all over the place.

Anyone have idea why Ccleaner can't find them ?

    Thanks

  5. When I use CC to clear cookies, there are still cookies showing in FF. The default settings are accept cookies and accept cookies from 3rd party sites/ until they expire.

  6. Just ran CC (latest) on Firefox 15.0.1 and all the cookies in the left column were not removed. Happened on two computers, Win7 32bit haven't tested on 64 bit yet. I ran Clear Recent History on FF and they were gone. I use FF 99% of the time so I doubt if those cookies were from IE9.

I never have had cookies checked in Clear History.

Best way to use CC with cookies ?

  7. Can the Prefech files be cleaned/deleted with relative safety from causing problems?

Cleaning the prefetch directory does no harm. It is best to just leave it alone. XP will clean it up about every three days while the computer is idle.

Xp uses the directory to speed loading of programs. Playing with it in the past I have noticed a very slight delay loading programs until the directory is populated again.

The machine I really notice the speed is on my Asus eee pc as the 1.6 gig Atom chip does not run at 1.6gig all the time. It's usually at the 900mhz range = SLOW.
