  1. You now need to update your Java and remove your older versions.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.

    * Click Start > Control Panel.

    * Click Add/Remove Programs.

    * Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in the name.

    * Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE), and install it to your computer from

    here

  2. Martin there are a few things I think you would do well to listen to if you want to stick around here

First off, don't make wild crazy conspiracy theories about CCleaner. The problem was most definitely on your side. CCleaner has given multiple options for not installing the toolbar, they don't force it on people.

Second, making threats like this is not going to help your argument

Maybe its time we all droppped CCleaner and use other products like Free Internet Window Washer 2.5

You can use what you want, but don't threaten us for a mistake on your part.

Thirdly and finally, don't be rude to somebody ( kmillerusaf ) who was trying to help you. Your comments were way out of line towards him and I moved your last post as it was completely uncalled for.

I suggest you cool your jets for 24 hours and really look back at your posts cause they were way out of line.

  3. give this a shot

Boot from the Windows XP installation CD.

At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press R to start Recovery Console. Choose the installation to be repaired by number (usually 1) and press "Enter".

When you are asked for the Administrator password, leave it blank and press "Enter".

At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r and press "Enter". (Note the space before /r) The disk check operation will start.

This will be a very thorough check of the hard drive and the file system...be patient and let it complete. It may appear to hang or even back up a few times...this is normal. 60 to 90 minutes is not unusual for this check...it may take longer in some cases.

Once the check completes and you are back at the command prompt, type exit and press "Enter". Let your computer boot normally to Windows.

  4. Spyware Doctor is a piece of junk that wont even remove the most basic infections out there.

Even if they were paying me $25 to use it, I still wouldn't

MBAM is so far ahead of Spyware Doctor that its like comparing a rock to an orange as a piece of food.

  5. Two things you should do

Your using an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, this can leave your pc open to vulnerabilities, you can update it here :

    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder

    • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
    • Accept any prompts.
    • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
    • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

  6. Pretty positive your problem is due to having an infection on your PC already. It is a file infecter called Virut, and it will infect every new .exe .rar .zip etc files

The only solution for you is to reformat

These need to be wiped : all programs, all .exe + .scr executables, downloaded archives (.zip + .rar) and now, according to a very trustworthy colleague, this newer variant injects all .htm + .html files

  7. This has gone on too far

IT IS a false positive. CHESTON please don't PM staff as well. This is clearly a problem on Webroots part, you can get in touch with them about it.

I have run the CCleaner installer through VirScan.org/Jotti/Virustotal, which scans it with around 40 anti-virus scanners. None of them detect any problems. It is completely clean.

Closing this topic since its clearly wrong and getting nowhere
