  1. You need to read the Eraser documentation for a clear answer.

When using Recuva after running Eraser to wipe the free space Recuva won't be able to find those files anymore. The only time I've noticed when Eraser can't get rid of them is when they're locked by Windows in the MFT. The only way to really get rid of everything on the disk is with something like DBAN, however that will remove everything on the disk including Windows.

My reccomendation would be Active@ KillDisk Hard Drive Eraser.

I've been using it for 2 years or so. It dismounts Hard Drives before wiping them and everything gets wiped + MFT, living good files behind.

To wipe the OS drive it lets you create a boot CD and run the program from there.

I do that every 6 months to keep my OS drive fresh.

Free version comes with only one pass zeros though :)

  2. I found couple of threads actually using the "Search", but they are dated back to 2006. One of the posts there said "there will be support in the next release" ..well, aparrently not :P

Is there any news on this?

I see that Google Chrome is supported and it is a brand new browser, I find K-Meleon to be much more popural!

    Thanx!

    Mike

    I got burried :(

Maybe sb can move it to CCleaner Suggestions? I think it's more appropriate there!

  3. I'm on Vista Business SP1 32bit fully updated. I've created some .log files, 2 empty folders named "empty" and "log" all under Program Files and run the latest CCleaner Slim version.

Everything worked fine as usual, nth from the above was deleted.

  4. This is a new one on me, but I'd be careful about one of the download locations: Brothersoft.

This site has a long list of McAfee Advisor red tagged downloads, although this may not be one of them.

You're correct about BrotherSoft, the software is clean though. There exists a thread at Wilders here all about Rising.

It offers a lot for a free AV, I'd say about everything.

  5. Naah, I don't think you need it, but perhaps a CCleaner mod can enlighten us more upon the secure deletion subject.

I would go for a DoD with everything checked on CCleaner (System, Advanced, applications, etc) after having got rid of malware, just to make sure all remnants are "securely" deleted.

  6. Well, unless you keep secret government documents, I think a simple overwrite is really what you're looking for :)

Even if you wanted secure deletion, I would go as far as DoD. Everything over 5 passes, I personally consider it paranoid.

  7. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MailFileAtt]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MailFileAtt\CLSID]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mapifvbx.object]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mapifvbx.object\Clsid]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mapifvbx.object.1]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mapifvbx.object.1\Clsid]

It was the first time I saw them and I think they were charachterised as ActiveX objects. I backed them up and deleted them, but would anybody be kind enough to explain me what they are?

    Thank you!

  8. No issues here under Vista Business SP1. I Installed the slim build in about 3 secs and run both file and registry clean.

One more good question to ask is if any other 3rd party registry cleaner or repair has been used :)

  9. Is it safe to run CCleaner at startup?

I mean isn't it possible a valid program would wright sth in temp folder as it loads and needs that data in temp folder for the next few seconds or so?

Ok my english is bad, but I hope somebody will understand what I am trying to say :P

  10. Wow quite a lot of crap! Missing shared DLLs was the reason my computer used to hang in the point of the progress bar during boot up. It could also be the reason for your slow downs.

    Take care!

  11. I've run CCleaner registry cleaner and deleted all the items found. However, I've run the demo version of Uniblue, a registry cleaner that costs about $60 for the full version. Uniblue claims to have discovered over 400 errors AFTER I have run CCleaner. Any insight as to the validity of the uniblue number and why there could be such a huge discreprancy between the two? Thanks.
I just wanted to say this. I had set up a new pc with a fresh install of Vista Ultimate and 10-15 programs, which were all installed without any errors. So it was a completely stable and new OS + prefered programs installation.

I then used a freeware registry cleaner (by Glarysoft I think) and it found 600+ registry issues to be repaired! Is this a joke or what?

CCleaner deletes what really is useless and needs to be deleted and doesn't mess up the registry. At least this is how I sea it the last 2 years I am using it.

  12. I did a fresh install of Vista Business, then used Windows Update to install 52 updates and then installed Service Pack 1.

Result was my pc would boot 4 out of 5 times, 1 out of 5 times it would freeze in the progress bar right before log screen, very annoying :(

Anyway, I don't want to bore you to death so I just say THANK YOU a lot, cause I run CCleaner registry cleaner and everything went back to normal.

My only question, if you are kind enough to answer, is what would cause this issue? I have attached the log with all the crap in registry deleted by CCleaner.

My guess would be Missing Shared DLLs.
