Does the portable version of Recuva (ver 1.11.257) do the same job as the Recuva ver 1.11.257 that requires installation? If it does than why install a program that can be run without installation?
I've noticed other programs (Truecrypt comes to mind) that have both a portable and an install version. I wonder the same thing about them.
My gut feeling is that sometimes installing a program can mess up a computer, so it is best not to install a program if you don't have to. Is my gut feeling wrong?
I'd appreciate hearing what others have to say about this because I don't know. I'm ---

Yes, I understand the value of "portable" application. What I don't understand is why install a program if that same program can be run by using a "portable" version that doesn't require any installation to do its thing.
