  1. I am using internet explorer 8 on my windows home edition sp3 computer and this new version is not deleting most of my cookies to delete. I checked before running CCleaner 3.07.1457 what cookies were in the cookies to delete section and there was a lot of them to delete. After running cleaner it showed only 32 cookie files were deleted. Checked cookies to delete again and it showed alot of cookies to delete. So I ran cleaner again and it did not delete any more cookies so this version does not work properly deleting cookies. This needs to be fixed.

  2. The Run (In Start Menu) is not functioning as expected in CC 2.03.532. The run commands are cleared only on logoff and/or shutdown/startup. It would be useful, if possible, to have the Run commands cleared in the current session as well.

    Environment: WinXP Pro SP2 all updates applied. Problem exists for admin and non-admin users. I do not recall this being an issue with previous versions. 12/5/2007

    Mine is still working correctly in 2.03.532. It is not being cleared anymore even when rebooting computer. I am running windows xp home edition sp2. Again thanks MrG for fixing it. ;)

  3. I also had the cookie issue.. Glad I read the forums before I ran CCleaner I just moved mine back to save since I ran CCleaner before installing the new version I only had cookies I wished saved, so I could just click them all over.

    Ok I too am looking for the old version I can't run this new version at all.. even after moving them to saved it dumped them cookies back out.. I would lose over 2/3rds of my cookies if I run this version!

    I am running windows xp home edition sp2 and have no problem with cookie cleaning and mine are saved just like it shows before cleaning.

  4. Just wanted to make clear what is happenning when running cleaner in 2.01.507. I have under Windows Explorer Run (in Start Menu) unchecked and after running cleaner start run is still there what I have listed in it but when shutting down computer and restarting it all the items in run menu are erased. This did not happen untill the 2 00+ versions. Wish this would get corrected for future releases to work correctly like 1.41 versions and earlier versions. Thanks. :D

  5. Hi,

    running xp sp2

    CCleaner v2.01.507

    Run (in Start Menu) ie. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU, is still cleaned if Internet Explorer>History is checked, regardless of whether Run (in Start Menu) is checked.

    Uncheck Internet Explorer>History and then the RunMRU is only cleaned if Run (in Start Menu) is checked.

    Obviously something that still needs fixing. <_<

    Same problem here. Running windows xp home service pack 2. This has been listed as a bug for some time since all versions of 2.0+ came out. Seems to me what used to work fine in earlier versions are forgotten now as it seems all is concentrated on getting vista systems to work correctly now. Wish the author of CCleaner would remember how xp is supposed to work. Am tired of having to type in run menu when nothing used to get erased. Am running version 1.38 as it works perfect for me and all versions since then are buggy. Please get newer versions to work with xp and not just vista systems. :angry:

  6. Mercy installed 2.01.507 running windows xp home edition service pack 2 and even with run (in start menu) unchecked under Windows Explorer everything still get erased in the run menu. Why can't this be corrected as it has been listed quite often in previous 2.0 + versions? Am going back to 1.38. until this bug is fixed.

    Jerry

  7. Sorry, but I can't reproduce this...

    I left everything unchecked, run the cleaner and restarted and all the items in the Run dropdown menu were still there.

    Do you have anything else checked while cleaning? If so, try uncheck them and see if you still have the problem.

    Have you changed your winini.sys file? This is the only entry in that file that should clean the Start->Run dropdown menu...

    [Run (in Start Menu)]

    LangSecRef=3002

    LangRef=3122

    Default=True

    RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU

    I hope this helps...

    No I am not going to uncheck everything iunder windows explorer when the run in startup is only thing I want not clened. All versions before 2.00 versions did not erase after restarting with run unchecked! I actually went back to 1.38 version which I think worked properly in everything for me. Did you try it with just run unchecked? Everything else listed under windows explorer has nothing to do with run in start menu! :angry:

    Jerry

  8. Same here using 2.00.495 RC when cleaning with run unchecked it shows up until shut down my computer and restart it. Nothing shows in start- run after restarting. Going back to 1.41 version where that doesn't happen. Am using windows pc, XP Home Edition service pack 2.

    Jerry Ps I see that was not corrected in release notes for 2.00.500 final version. Please correct that problem. Thanks

    Well installed 2.00.500 Final version and this problem stil exists.. Cleaning with final version with run not checked under windows explorer stil gets erased when restarting computer. This was reported in bug reports so why was this not fixed before releasing final 2.00.500 version? Stil using windows xp home edition service pact 2. Again going back to 1.41 so this doesn't keep getting erased?

    Jerry :angry:

  9. In the latest beta 2 build, the Run (in start menu) is always cleared regardless of the setting.

    Same here using 2.00.495 RC when cleaning with run unchecked it shows up until shut down my computer and restart it. Nothing shows in start- run after restarting. Going back to 1.41 version where that doesn't happen. Am using windows pc, XP Home Edition service pack 2.

  10. Here we go again as my WindowsUpdate log file is changed from ANSI to UNICODE and nothing can be read in it now as everything is scrambled again. This version and 1.39 change this setting to Unicode in the encoding section under save or save as. I have to uncheck the checkmark under system and windows log files to keep my windowsupdate log readable in English. Why had all previous versions before 1.39 never changed encoding setting and kept it at ANSI NOT UNICODE? If I want to clean windows log files under system I have to go back to 1.38 or earlier versions. Again why was this changed? Am using windows xp home edition service pack 2.

  11. But its not an index.dat issue, the IE5 entries are in temp internet files. If I analyse with index.dat checked they are not found, if I tick temp internet files and analyse those same files from several days ago are still found.

    And Big J, please don't confuse this thread by adding to it with your issue describing it as 'exactly the same' when your issue is completely different and has its own thread for discussion.

    JDPower all I am saying for the problem you are seeing when you analyze after cleaning is done with files showing 0bytes not being deleted is you are saying you see them with temporary internet files checked under internet explorer. But what I am trying to tell you is uncheck the checkmark besides temporary files under system and you should not see them when you analyze after running cleaner. This DOES pertain to the problem you described.

  12. Currently my only problem is with index.dat files.

    After Cleaning, Analyze doesn't show nothing left undeleted, except this entry

    C:\WINDOWS\Debug\UserMode\userenv.log 154 bytes

    IMO this is a log file that Windows recreate immediately, so it isn't a CCleaner fault.

    Whiteshark are you saying that after you run CCleaner 1.39.502 with check mark beside windows log files under system that your WindowsUpdate log is not scrambled and unreadable under Windows in your main hard drive directory? Mine was changed from ANSI to UNICODE in the encoding section of my Notepad. :angry:

  13. I've just noticed when analysing CCleaner is still showing temp internet files from three days. I run CCleaner and everythings cleaned, then analyse and these IE5 files are still there, and they are still there when I restart (computers been restarted several times since visiting the sites showing in IE5)

    The actual files are showing as 0 bytes but they don't seem to be getting removed. I've only noticed this with the recent version but could have been happening before as I rarely use analyse.

    Any suggestions whats going on?

    Further testing found on one of my computers running windows xp home edition sp2 that these files showing 0 bytes are still there after running cleaner and clicking analyze. But this is also a problem under system cleaning and if you take check mark away from temporary files you won't see this happening anymore. All my problems are coming from cleaning under system in 1.39.502 version.

    I just put 1.39.502 back in my computer and did some more experimenting. The problem I have been having are coming from having check mark besides Windows Log Files under system. And when I took check mark away my problem was solved until next release where hopefully I can put check mark back on. But your problem will not happen if you take check mark away on windows log files under system. All files are deleted this way even using analyze after running cleaner.

  15. Could someone tell me what to do to my one computer still displaying text not in English even tho I have font set to Lucida Console, font style set to regular and font size set to 10? Script is set to Western. I have done a system restore to a day before I used CCleaner 1.39.502. This version totally makes me mad because I can not read anything in this computers WindowsUpdate log file. Only shows little 0's now. I never want this file deleted or cleaned as I use this file to see when next automatic update detection time is scheduled and if there are any errors. Why did this version screw this up in this WindowsUpdate notepad and other notepads read in English correctly? I have gone back to 1.38 version but think it is to late on this computer. I sure hope there is a workaround this to see it in English again as I do not want to reformat my whole drive again. Again cannot understand why CCleaner 1.39.502 did this to this log file. This version was not thoroughly tested before it was released.

    Well I figured it out myself. Version 1.39.502 changed the encoding from ANSI to UNICODE. So when I was looking at the unreadable windows update log file I clicked on file in notepad then save as and changed UNICODE back to ANSI. Will be using 1.38 version until this is hopefully corrected in next months release.

    PS when I changed back to ANSI still could not read what was in log at that time but when I went to microsoft update site and checked for updates everything was printed in log file was readable in English so I deleted the UNICODE section that could not be read. What a pain but all is well again until the author corrects this problem.

    The exact same thing you described is doing same on my computers running 1.39.502. I think this version is loaded with bugs and problems. Have had excellent results with previous versions but not happy at all with latest version. This really should not have been released. My WindowUpdate log is all messed up as well. Hope next version is tested better then this one. :angry:

  17. I have been using CCleaner for quite some time without any problems but now I have one. When I clicked on Run Cleaner using latest version 1.39.502 my windows update notepad under windows can not be read anymore. It looks like a bunch of battery meters connected together showing nothing in english. How do I get it back so I can read the info in it? Under software distribution folder info is still read in English but not so in window update notepad. Driving me nuts not being able to fix it. Hope somebody can help me as I even did a system restore back to April 1, 2007 with no luck. I am using windows XP Home edition service pack 2. :angry:

    PS I did a complete virus scan using McAfee Internet Securiity Suite 8 showing no problems anywhere.

  18. If you use that file regularly you should have it unchecked anyway. I've just checked it out and CCleaner should delete that file as part of the Windows logs cleaning (at least it does here). Not sure why its just getting mixed up and not deleted but like I said you probably don't want it deleting anyway do you so just untick that box.

    Well all I know is previous versions have never touched my windows update log but this one does so will not use it. Have never seen windowsupdate log when cleaning but this new version does not show it either but does change the text language and you will not get it back to read in English. As I said many previous versions of CCleaner have never touched this log on both of my computers running windows XP Home edition service pack 2. :angry:

  19. To check what is going on with my windows automatic updates I go to my main C drive double click on it then double click on windows and scroll down below folders to the log file called WindowsUpdate and double click on that and I can see everything is working correctly on my automatic updates. This morning it looked ok in English when restarted computer but everything yesterday right after running cleaner on 1.39.502 still is in a different language or something. Never did this with previous versions of CCleaner. I think it has something to do when you have check mark under system and Windows Log Files in CCleaner. This definitely needs to be looked into

    I have confirmed this is the problem with CCleaner 1.39.502. When I took check mark off of windows log files under system and ran run cleaner everything was ok and in English in the WindowsUpdate log file. but when put check mark on windows log files and ran CCleaner again now it is in a different language and unreadable. Will not use windows log files with check mark besides it until this is corrected. :angry:

    PS I am going back to previous 1.38 version until this is corrected.

  20. Sorry what do you mean? there is nothing called "windows update notepad". Do you mean a set of log files in a particular folder or notepad itself is not working?
