  1. I'm not that smart as I appear to be

Googling Is Good For Your Brain

Searching, finding, and then reading this article will make you smarter. That's not because I'm a member of MENSA and about to share unique insights into the string theory of theoretical physics. Rather, researchers at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) released a study suggesting that searching online could be beneficial for the brain.

  3. Security Watch Revisiting the 10 Immutable Laws of Security, Part 2

    Jesper M. Johansson

    Contents

Law #4: If you allow a bad guy to upload programs to your Web site, it?s not your Web site anymore.

Law #5: Weak passwords trump strong security.

Law #6: A computer is only as secure as the administrator is trustworthy.

Law #7: Encrypted data is only as secure as the decryption key.

    Conclusion

In last month's issue of TechNet Magazine, I kicked off a three-part series revisiting the well-known essay "10 Immutable Laws of Security." My objective is to evaluate them, eight years after they were first postulated, and see whether or not they still hold?in other words, to see if they really are "immutable." (You can find the first part of this series at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/library/cc722487.aspx

I found that the first three laws hold up pretty well. Now I'm ready to scrutinize four more of the laws. In next month's final installment, I will discuss the final three laws, as well as offer some new insight that benefits from eight years of hindsight.

  4. I think because for quite a few people logging into this forum has to be done each time. I am one of them.

I have tried everything I know and still have to sign in.

It's the only forum I have to do this with

    That's strange.

I'm automatically logged in every time unless I delete the Piriform cookie.

I'm able to automatically log in every time to all forums I watch as long as I don't clear their cookies.

  5. Thanks Yokenny but I don't have Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.12.36 installed.

So I don't have to worry about Un-installing it.

That's only to un-install the previous version if installed.

I have Secunia PSI installed and run it 2 times a month.
As long as you don't have the resident portion installed like I did and it gobbled up 40MB.

I have Secunia Online Software Inspector email me when they have an update.

  6. Currently using McAfee, but i'm changing when my subscription runs out. Probaly to Avast! but I might look into AntiVir as soo many people seem to be using it.
Make sure that you remove all traces of McAfee as it will prevent most other anti virus applications from installing.

I use Avast! and AntiVir and they are both good.

  7. Congratulations for Bill

    Unboxing Most Valuable Professional Kit

As I mentioned recently I've had the honor of receiving a Microsoft MVP(Most Valuable Professional) award for 2009. Today DHL delivered some fun stuff to make me really feel special.

The MVP kit includes a lapel pin, certificate, badge and a nice crystal statue. The only thing missing was a MVP t-shirt.

    Thank you Microsoft

I received an award back in April 2007 and I was thrilled.

I do have a WinPatrol golf shirt that I like:

  8. I had the same problem until I implemented the advice in:

EDIT: BTW, I deleted CCleaner from my PC and then downloaded it again after I installed IE8 Beta. I also noticed this website runs really sluggish with IE8 Beta, but just fine with MSN Explorer.
I run IE8 beta2 on my real old PIII and it runs fine with XP Pro SP3.

What is your operating system and what other applications do you have running?
