CCleaner Pro "Lifetime" Licence - why has it expired?

I bought mine in 2017 and was just fine with no updates or new features after 1 year. Now my license is showing "deactivated". I bought it directly from piriform. I wrote support and they told me they deactivate licenses that ask for refunds or are really old?? Is 5 years for a lifetime license "really old"??
