The issue wasn’t about not being able to import bookmarks into Firefox (my browser), but that CC Cleaner wiped out my bookmarks and backups. I could not restore the bookmarks from backup since those were gone too.
I finally solved this, after much trial and error, by deleting “places.sqlite” and “favicons.sqlite” files. After doing so and re-starting Firefox, my bookmarks reappeared.
