Firefox Extensions REBOOTED

Edit: The VSO downloader is on the list of banned software here at the Clinic.

Please elaborate.

Do you suppose I could automate the process by downloading the files & using WinRar SFX maker to automatically extract them to %AppData%\Opera?

Using the relative path means it will automatically locate the current users application data folder & drop it into it in XP/Vista/7.

Just use a batch file that you have stored somewhere such as in the Windows folder that will move the urlfilter.ini file from your downloads folder to where you want it. It may be easier to just store it in the Opera program files folder instead of having umpteen copies in all profiles, such as this which is a dead simple batch file:

md "%ProgramFiles%\Opera\adblock"
move /Y "C:\Downloads\urlfilter.ini" "%ProgramFiles%\Opera\adblock"
cls
exit

That was a joke, going along with the notion of downloadaholics and their treatment clinics.

I am very sorry if it caused concern. If it is inappropriate delete it and please accept my apologies.

The VSO Downloader is a very nice software.

edit: I changed that post a bit to make that more clear.

Thank you for elaborating. First I was thinking "The Clinic" is some anti-malware place or something and you folks black-listed my favourite video downloader for no reason.

What I like about VSO, is most of their offerings are really simple to use.

That was a joke,

Had me laughing for sure. Told you to come to my clinic.

Anyone using something similar to this?

Hi! As far as I see here is no one using very usefull extension to FF and Chrome - Xmarks. This extension restores all plugins, bookmarks, history and other preferences of your browser after reinstallation of crash of system. It stores data in the cloud so you will have no headashe how to store and how to restore all your familiar environment. I like it very much!

don't both of those browsers have a simular built in feature already?

I thought xmarks got cancelled, or was I misinformed?

Regardless, Firefox Sync does the same thing, though not cross-browser

I don't use Firefox so did a bit of reading about x-marks. Doesn't seem to have very good write ups judging from these recent posts

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/reviews/

I have been happy and dependent upon the free versions of both LastPass and XMarks for some years.

XMarks has never given me grief.

LastPass has never given me grief apart from a couple of days when LastPass battened down the hatches because of a suspected intrusion.

I notice that no browser other than Firefox is identified in the complaints within https://addons.mozil...s-sync/reviews/

I suspect that my good fortune is due to jumping ship from Firefox to PaleMoon when Mozilla started breaking Add-ons

because they chose to update like crazy and use the "common users" as Beta Tester Fodder.

My top three that I cannot live without:

- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ Adblock Plus - which going by the above, everyone is aware of

- https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere HTTPSEverywhere - this extention was developed by the Eletronic Frontier Foundation and forces around 200 websites to use the secure version of the website as opposed to the unsecure version.

- http://www.qfxsoftware.com/ KeyScrambler - the free version is all you need for the browser. Basically what it does is prevent keyloggers from getting your passwords, etc. A must use for anyone who does online banking.

Still a big fan of One Liner: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/prospector-oneLiner/ - compresses the tab bar into the address bar.

Darn! I just installed Firefox on Sat.12/8 but after read this I'm wodering if I should have gone with Opera instead.

I'm just a simple computer user so several of the posts were way ovr my head. I went with Firefox 'cuz I've read so many times that it's safer than IE even tho' I am very careful about where I go.

oops, was just re-reading this when I noticed I misspelled 'over' & it wasn't caught but the last time I posted using Firefox I was thrilled about spell checking 'cuz IE didn't.

Why? You don't need to use these extensions to use Firefox. Though some are very handy.

There's no reason why you can't have both installed grits. They each have their benefits, and sometimes it's good to just browse with something different.

Most of the guys on here have more than one browser installed, so go on, bite the bullet. Have both. :)

You'll eventually find out if you prefer one over the other, and what one can do better than the other.

Spell checking on the forum seems to be hit/miss. Sometimes it works.

Firefox's spellchecker is a consistent error for me. Even with "Check Spelling" selected, the problem is the sub menu dictionary choice occasionally unchecks itself for some reason ...

... and if you're aware of that, an occasional peek in there puts it right.

Opera's is basically the same, but never unchecks itself ...

The quick reply box doesn't even present the option right now.

I am, however, running Nightly, so it could be my problem. It seems to go away and come back from time to time, I always welcome its visits.
