Yes, you are correct. Their computers also store many gigabytes of useless data taking up valuable disk space.
Drive space is not usually a problem these days.
When CCleaner first became a ‘must have’ saving a few MB of storage space was a big deal.
However we now have GB and TB drives as standard.
Saving a few MB of drive space is not the same advantage that it used to be 20 years ago.

I appreciate your feedback, but I’m not referring to a few MB of storage. Over time, useless files can add up to many gigabytes of space that also take up valuable backup space. Yes, drives are larger and most people don’t need CCleaner, but many users prefer to keep things (c)cleaner. ![]()
If you aren’t using CCleaner, why are you even on this thread?
Thanks for this guide, nicely done and much appreciated
Nuke, what you said makes a lot of sense. That’s really what product creation and feedback are all about, though. Out of the billions of people out there, everyone’s a little different—gamers, analysts, architects—we all have our own needs and ways of processing information. Some of us handle tons of data, others just a bit, and everyone’s setup is unique.
That’s where a good app cleaner can really make a difference. It helps narrow things down, troubleshoot problems, and figure out what’s causing issues. When you already know you’ve taken all the right steps to keep things clean and running smoothly, an app like this just adds an extra layer of support.
Most folks here just want to be helpful and share what they think the cleaner developers might want to know—so they can keep improving the product and make something that really stands out and sells well.
Cant believe Piriform is going with let’s pretend people will still use ccleaner7 and not say f-all about this scandal.
It does make you wonder how they’re eating their own dogfood (using this unready software themselves), when it’s sooo beta-grade. What they should have done is have an open beta after the closed beta they had. It seems, and is partially my fault, as they offered me the beta but knowing SmartMonitoring was not in it (my thought oh, a beta they’ll add it before gold. WRONG) I said no thanks, that the testing was too focused on a small group.. Had I known this is what the testers were giving good grades to I would have joined and been vociferous about how bad so many of these ideas were.
Here’s one that no one has really stated yet. For MANY years people have asked for a dark mode, what they wanted was that classic CCleaner 2-6 skin only dark. What they gave us was a Microsoft flavored (their buttons and flat interface) WebView, looking like it was from novices reading a how-to-design for windows 10 and 11 book on their kindle, NOT big names that have a design team (or should).
Here’s is the last minor version release before Version 7. You’re welcome.
Google ‘file puma + ccleaner_6.39-52463’
no need for that. we (the moderators) have given an official link for 6.39
Thanks for that info. I found chocolately has it cached as well
the reason for the official link is many third party unofficial uploads can be compromised. CCleaner has a large footprint and makes for a wide target. many third party software depots, both those good and those that are suspect, repack installers to bundle other things in them.
It is advisable to follow the steps in the above quoted process.
You can stop it updating EVER.
Uninstall 7, then reinstall v6.39, the latest “safe” version, but DO NOT run the program.
First create a new rule in Windows Defender Firewall. Block C:program files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe. Create a second rule to block C:program files\CClener\CCleaner64.exe. Also delete CCUpdate.exe in the same folder.
Disable CCleaner in Windows task scheduler too. If you just block automatic updates in the program, it will force an update after 1 year.
Then you will get this, even if you try to check for updates:
I’m now reckoning that the v6.39 download links in various threads/posts are pushing 5K clicks since the advent of CCleaner7.
You have to assume that every one of them resulted in a download and rollback.
The ones in the main roll-back post are currently 3K+ and 594 respectively,
and there are others as well each with a couple of hundred.
This one popped up in my ‘badges’ today as my latest ‘Hot Link’ with over 300 clicks.
After reinstalling version 6, I scrolled back through my reading, and in my opinion, Marvel really hit the nail on the head. I have experience working in Customer Experience, so I understand how overwhelming feedback can be—especially when trying to differentiate between concerns that need immediate action and those that are just part of typical feedback (especially when a low percentage are related to actual purchases).
I’ve seen some responses from the Cleaner group in other threads, but I’ve been more focused on why Version 7 is being positioned as the best choice.
That said, would it be possible to remove the enforced upgrade to V7 for those of us who have downgraded? It would be great if you could acknowledge this and let us know if it’s been done. This would go a long way in showing that you’re listening to the feedback here and genuinely interested in moving forward to create the best product.
Thanks so much!
Absolutely terrible update. Just horrible. This has made a great product useless. Did you let Microsoft Windows 11 team design this? Just awful. Please re-think.
I have rolled back and deleted update.exe
Again this is a terrible mistake
How much of v.7 app was coded with AI? Be honest!
We mods are just users like yourself but with the ability to do small things on the forum to help users.
We have no input or knowledge about how v7 was coded.
If I had to make a guess I would say… badly ![]()
I’m a long-time user, probably since early versions of Ccleaner.
I have selected in CC7 , settings - advance settings, that I don’t want Tray Icon to shows up, when windows starts.
I have music production computer and everything that is enabled at startup I disable then, to have clean , fast startup.
It’s not such a big deal, but anyway, if selected “not showing” Tray Icon and still shows up at startup.
Otherwise, last year of using Pro version.
I have started using maybe 1 year ago, Ashampoo WinOptimizer, very cheap and life-time license.
If I need to update some programs I also use UniGetUI (free).
Shame, a lot of times is , when something is already good, they make it worse, seen also at other applications.
Best regards
V7 is a big disappointment! Ive been using CC for over 10 years at least. What a shame to see a decent program be downgraded to a slow, less usefull, mess! Time to look for an alternative.
