I just remoted in to a client's PC and tried to run a Custom Clean. I noticed that the "Upgrade to Pro" button on the bottom left was orange in color, and each time I tried to run a Custom Clean, a new dialogue box would open, asking me to upgrade to Pro.
Have we now been locked out of Custom Clean with the free version?
There are a couple of threads about this bug already.
The staff have been notified about it. And this thread has been added to that report.
From what we as users can tell up to now it appears to be a bug in a 'variant' of CCleaner Free that has been put out alongside the regular version for some users picked at random.
So if you see an orange or green (one report said red but may have meant orange?) Button with 'Get Pro' rather than the usual grey 'Upgrade' you have a variant version which has this bug. There's a few other glitches with it too but not as noticible.
Note that you may also get an orange 'Upgrade' at the moment, that is not the bugged variant and works as it should.
Also note It isn't that button itself which is the bug, it's just a way we have spotted of identifying the bugged variant(s).
Until they fix it the best that I can suggest for now is to uninstall it and reinstall again to see if you get a 'normal' one.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the slim version and it is working for now. Chuck

Thanks for confirming that a reinstall worked.
PS. It's the 'regular' CCleaner that you have now; 'slim' refers to the installer itself not the CCleaner that it installs.

If that's the case it'd be even worse (IMO), testing the waters with some A/B trial to see what the reception to that change would be? It is most certainly not a bug, that dialog was purposely made, at the very least there's intent behind it and the same screen appeared when one went to the "Get Pro" section (new name for the "Upgrade" one, last icon in the vertical navigation bar).
However, you may be correct in it being a test, updating to 6.24 and depriving CCleaner from Internet access (firewall or otherwise) restored the functionality, or rather, didn't remove it: Custom Clean was once again accessible to free users and "Upgrade" was shown instead of "Get Pro". I'll still be staying with 6.23 in any case, I am not using CCleaner on a daily basis (not even monthly I'd say), I'm in no rush and I'd rather not be testing anything, but I will follow the situation and see how it evolves and what the stance of the company is (if they even address it).

Health Check is still working in the changed CCleaner Free to run a basic clean.

Hi Sylver Cheetah 53:
Are you using a Portable or a "regular" installed build of CCleaner Free, and what version are you using? A new CCleaner v6.25.11131 was released today (01-Jul-2024) but the only change I see in the version history at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/version-history is that v6.25.11131 fixes "a stability issue that some CCleaner trial users encountered".
I can't test myself because Custom Clean is still working for me in the previous CCleaner Free Portable v6.25.11093. I don't know if it's relevant, but note that I have created custom inbound and outbound blocks in my firewall for CCleaner64.exe.

There is something more interesting than just that patch release going on.
The CCleaner Free v6.25.11093 installed on my second laptop WAS paywalled - now it isn't anymore.
I haven't done anything to change it, it's changed itself (again).
All I did was fire up the laptop, open CCleaner Free, and try a Custom Clean, - which I expected to show the paywall like it has been doing, but instead it ran as normal.
(It still has that Orange/Brown Upgrade button though).
