CCleaner version 7

I despise your changes to the menu, you have destroyed CCeaner. Why? I will not be updating anymore and will search for an alternative. What was once a very good program, is now just junk trash.

I’ve been using CCleaner since version 1, so for 20 years. But version 7 is an absolute disaster. I can’t even use winapp2.ini for the advanced cleanup routine anymore. If this doesn’t change, I’ll look for an alternative and this piece of junk software will disappear from my hard drive. CCleaner7 = piece of software shit.

I see {Censored} got to CCleaner finally as well. Looks nice on the surface, but then you start to look around, and you notice that:

  • getting any useful info from Driver Updater, Performance Optimizer, etc. requires more clicks
  • Custom Clean is basically empty - all the rules from CCleaner Enhancer are gone
  • Settings are basically empty
  • No scheduling, no automation

20 years of uninterrupted usage thrown out of the window like it was nothing…

@Nergal Well, the term is in Wikipedia, but I hear you. Let’s call it “the process by which once‑useful digital platforms or services gradually degrade in quality” then.

Agreed this version is complete garbage. I am a decade long user of the product but I am actively looking for a competitve alternate. Heads should roll at the company for this disaster- the digital Cracker Barrel

uninstalled 7. i used to use the regclean feature, ive been using this application for its entire life (since v1.x) until now. this new version is unusable now.

  • no way to make sure it exits on close, tries to run in background
  • cookie settings on feedback section can only be set once - i wanted to make sure no third party cookies were allowed, couldn’t set the cookie settings after initial cookie-settings configuration prompt
  • puts windows scheduler items to upload logs every day - sneaky way to get info off the computer back to mothership.
  • user experience when removing state reg entries ruined, 6.x regclean experience was much better
  • ux - trying to look like malwarebytes, and thats not good, they ruined their user experience in a similar way, but at least i can malwarebytes to exit without terminating it in taskmanager
  • reverted to v6.39.11548

I know what word he used. Its not considered a curse word and is now regularly used now to refer to software which is regressing.

Canadian writer Cory Doctorow coined the neologism ~redacted~ in November 2022. Doctorow’s term has been widely adopted. The American Dialect Society selected it as its 2023 Word of the Year with Australia’s Macquarie Dictionary following suit for 2024. Merriam-Webster and Dictionary dot com also list ~redacted~ as a word.

def.
when a digital platform or software is made worse for users

def.
the gradual degradation of an online platform or service’s functionality as part of a cycle in which the platform or service first offers benefits to users to attract them then, often due to profit seeking, features and functionality are changed or crippled at the expense of users

def.
the gradual deterioration of a service or product brought about by a reduction in the quality of service provided often due to profit-seeking.

This new version 7 is nothing but a fiasco. I hate it when people try to fix something that is not broken and when they do it winds up really broken. I am now starting to look at Wise Disk Cleaner to replace CCleaner. I reverted back to Ver. 6.39.11548 for the time being and stopped all updates and update notifications for CCleaner in my Firewall and in my Task Manager. I just wanted to let you know that I had to do a system restore on both my computers to get Ver. 6.39.11548 back as your wonderful Ver.7 kept displaying the what has improved screen and could not get to the UI screen. Every time I tried a repair or uninstall and reinstall Ver.7 it did the same thing with displaying your glorious improvement screen. I searched and removed all CCleaner files from my computers and did a restore from yesterday before you slipped this garbage on me by saying an update is now available. I have used CCleaner for years with no complaints but now after what you did the sooner I get rid of your junk the better I will feel.

please don’t argue with moderation, it’s root word is of the do not say list. back rto the subject at hand, the Degradation of a product we use in its new kiddy friendly (joking) version.
i don’t like how it runs registry with custom and gives no option to pick and choose and follow my owbn registry advice.

it should be said, version 6 got a lot of complaints when we went from 5 to 6.

I restored PC from a backup to fix all mess caused by new CCleaner. I blocked all CCleaner executable files in Firewall to prevent autoupdate and looking for alternative. CCleaner reached “End of Support” for me same as Windows 10. Is sad Avast company killed another good software, even it was bloated with adware and unnecessary stuff for some time now.

I created an account on the website solely for the purpose of expressing how completely disgusted I am with version 7. It took a while - and a whole lot of frustration - just to figure out where the “next” button was just on the welcome screen after updating… because the splash being displayed is larger than its allotted window, so you have to find the scroll bar, find the button, then repeat for every screen. Forcing a scan to start, more garbage layout issues - everything about this is pure fecal slime. I could really go on and on but you get the idea.

I’ve used the app since the old days too and am done. I’ll check back in a few months to see if y’all have been wise enough to revert from the “hey let’s clone a ‘modern’ look used by other apps, except let’s not think it through or make it functional” and the rest of the trash back to a clean useable UI and proper functionality… but that’s never the way these things go.

Time to find a new app to keep the system running smooth.

Latest version is the worst I’ve ever tried

Make a new version where you have new features in previous versions

This never happen. They invested money and time to make this huge change, so dont expect they roll back to previous state. They not care about users feedback.

I’m another user who goes back to the earliest versions of CCleaner. And I’m furious. I ran version seven and it totally wiped out all my Firefox settings, and screwed up a dozen other things on the computer. The UI is horrible, it’s confusing, and makes no sense The registry fix doesn’t let you see what it’s “fixing” (giving you a choice), and the cookie save/delete is now useless. If I know enough about computers to want to use ccleaner, it stands to reason that I want control, I want information, I want choices, and I don’t want some idiot auto-pilot software going through and making changes.

I think you don’t understand your users. I saw your moderator defending V7 by saying there were complaints about V6 too, but this isn’t true. Didn’t happen. Those were minor fixes, and the basic UI was just tweaked. In this case, I see nothing on the internet in the past 48 hours but complaints, and requests to revert back to six.

Bascially, V7 is garbage. A mistake. Years ago, companies could say “live with it, you’ll get used to it.” But today, I think it would do you well to admit how bad this is, trash it, cop to your mistake and go back to the previous version. If not, you’re in real trouble here: The people who are calling you out on what hot garbage this version is are the very people who recommend it to others, and install it on their friends / families / companies / schools computers.

You need to pull Version 7. It’s awful. And like far too much software today, it suffers from mission creep.

Yet another long time user who is horrified at the complete mess that I have just been presented with. To say the UI is ‘unfriendly’ would be an understatement. It is absolutely the worst interface, with so much of the old functions now missing, or so buried as to be unfindable.

I too will be giving up on over 12 months subscription to get rid of this awful piece of software.

RUBBISH AVAST, ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!

there are three moderators and NONE of them(us) are defending v7. we’re all agog at it too.

i agree it’s like they never listened to us users. this custom clean section, including the all or nothing reg cleaner (no longer reg integrity in my mind maybe reg destroyer) the lack of monitor (which i rely on to selectivly clean my browsers(1)) the lack of multiuser clean in pro (from what I’ve found) and many more issues and retcons.

(1) if anybody replies with “the browsers can clean themselves at exit”, my head will disperse flaming hot lava that will melt us all into iron slag. i want everything but a little cleaned, i DEFINITELY do not want everything but my fovorites cleaned, many/most of my favorites i do want cleaned.

Nergal: My apologies. I thought the moderators were defending it. In my fury at how bad this is - and how badly it screwed up my Win 11 system (yes, I needed a full restore) I was reading too quickly.

It’s good to know that you are all agog at it, too. I’ve now seen dozens of complaints on other web sites all over the world. Other than hype announcements (“It’s here! It’s pretty! It’s smarter than ever!”) I have not seen one single positive comment anywhere on the web, on any of the tech-smart web sites. It’s all “stay away.”

Does anyone at CCleaner read this forum? Has it sunk in yet that they’ve made a mistake?

I want a refund!!! You have destroyed a functional and useful application and turn it into this (the words I want to use will be banned). I have uninstalled version 7 and intend to seek something that works!

You reverted to v6.39.11548. Where can I find that version? So far I’ve only found suspect “cracked” versions. Upgrading to version 7 was a big mistake.
