CCleaner Professional .... it auto installs version 7.0.1010.0 but I don't want it! I want my CCleaner Professional back!

For some reason my CCleaner Professional stopped cleaning my Chrome browser on exit. I thought something was wrong so I reinstalled it …. for some reason now it has auto updated to version 7.0.1010.0

I hate this new version! How do you set options to clean your browser on exit. The navigation to set parameters is terrible. Heeellllppp.

Thanks for making this available. I am a paid subscriber and am not happy with CCleaner v7. I have reverted back to v6.39. Is there any news on fixes etc. Thanks

How did you revert to V6.9 … I’d prefer that also but it seems to always reinstall V7 after my download.

I had a TERRIBLE experience with CCleaner 7. This CCleaner Update window just appeared on my PC. I decided to click Install, so it’s on me, but I wish I hadn’t. I thought there would be opportunities to abort the installation, but that one click seemed to install CCleaner 7. No confirmation, no check boxes, just Boom. There was also no progress bar or other indication that it was being installed. When I started the program, it was CCleaner 7, with a Scan Now button.

I clicked on some of the other Icons and found Cloud Drive Analyzer, Disk Analyzer, Ideas Portal, Settings, and Help. In Settings, there was an option to enable auto-update. It was enabled, and clicking on disabled did nothing. I also could not get back to the first screen with the Scan Now button. I had to close and restart the program to get back to the Scan Now screen. Another panel had Privacy settings, but I could not change any of them, and when I clicked on one, CCleaner 7 crashed.

I restarted it and thought maybe once I do a scan (with no option to input what will or will not be scanned), everything else will appear. I clicked on the Scan Now button and nothing happened. I don’t get it. Where are disk and file cleaner, Registry cleaner, driver updates, and software updates? Why can’t I change any of the options I tried? Why did it crash when I was in the Privacy menu? Why did the Scan Now button not do anything? I uninstalled CCleaner 7 from Windows Control Panel, downloaded and installed v6.39.

CCleaner customers should have a choice whether they want to install beta software. The one-click and no way out Install process was bad. There was no statement saying you can try CCleaner 7 beta if you want. Maybe something went wrong with my install because CCleaner 7 was completely non-functional, and I could not find any of the features I use CCleaner for. Now I am reading in the Roll Back thread that CCleaner v6.39 will start with all default settings, so now I have to go through and set everything up again. NOT HAPPY!

very well said, however a couple of things. The auto-update setting is to keep 7 updated, not to roll back to 6.39. On that same tip, sadly it’s not a beta – though it should be still and I think whoever beta tested it should have been more vocal in outrage – it’s just poorly executed, was not ready for gold (a fancy term meaning released from beta) and is missing vital features which were in 6.39 that we’ve been either told are coming in a nebulous time period (smart monitor, scheduled clean) or to submit and vote using the ideas portal (Choosing start page custom or health check)– No ideas have been added since release.

Is this what you’re seeing in ccleaner 7

If so you need to open windows services (Win+R services.msc) and make sure that there is a ccleaner 7 service and it is started and set to automatic, ccleaner is a windows service now. You should see

Where they broke the whole thing is, even though health check is unavailable without the service. the screen shows its opening page instead of a warning to start the service, confusing you into thinking you can (have to) run a scan. @Laurence_CCleaner This a terrible bug

@Nergal - Thanks for your response and the screenshots. Yes, your first screenshot is what I saw, with only the 5 icons in the left sidebar. I clicked on some of them and tried to change some settings, but nothing worked, and I could not figure out how to get back to the first screen. If CCleaner is a Windows service, and it was not running, that would probably explain everything I experienced. My question then is, why did the CCleaner 7 service not start?

I uninstalled v7 and reinstalled v6.39. In Windows Services, I see the CCleaner Performance Optimizer Service, which I assume is related and limited to the Performance Optimizer, which I rarely use. I could try updating to v7 again and see if a new CCleaner 7 service appears, and if it starts, or if I have to start it manually, but based on other posts I read here yesterday, I will wait for them to iron out the bugs and do an official (not beta) release. I have disabled updates in CCleaner v6.39 for now. I will keep an eye on this forum and give v7 a try when things have settled down.

Thanks for the info. In v6.39, I have disabled “Keep CCleaner updated automatically” and “Send notifications when there is a new version of CCleaner”. I also deleted the temp directory that has the CCleaner v7 .exe file in it and renamed CC_Update.exe so it cannot run. Hopefully, that will stop v7 from trying to install again. I will decide if and when to update CCleaner to v7.

I will probably not renew my subscription, especially if they jack up the price. I worked with ChatGPT to write a .bat file that does most of what CCleaner can do, and a few things it does not do. I was using CCleaner for certain things because I am lazy, but it’s getting to be too expensive for what it does, and CCleaner’s v7 buggy update was a headache I did not need.
