CCleaner 6.37.11523 and older does not delete any files or cookies Firefox 140.x.x [SOLVED]

CCleaner 6.37.11523 and older does not delete any files or cookies related to Firefox 140.x.x. It also does not see any add-ons in Firefox of this version. Could any of the developers or moderators tell me if and when this will be fixed?
Thanks.

It clears my Firefox 140.0.2 (64-bit) with no problem:

The add-ons and extensions are there too:

If you could you give us more details of just what you are doing, then we may be able to work out what’s going wrong for you.
eg. Are you running Health Check or Custom Clean? if it’s Custom Clean then what do you have ticked for Firefox?

And just another thought - Have you set your Firefox to delete cookies and site data when you close it?
Obviously if FFx has already cleared them then CCleaner won’t find any to clear:

No issues here either.

I use my own cleaning and have everything checked for Firefox in CCleaner. CCleaner finds Firefox files to delete, but doesn’t delete them. So when re-analyzing, it finds them again, but doesn’t delete them, and so on. I tried it on 2 computers with Win 11 x64 and one computer with Win 10 x32 - it shows the same on all of them, so CCleaner finds Firefox files, but never deletes them.
It also doesn’t see any add-ons on any of the computers I’ve tested, as I mentioned before. I have UBlock Origin and TWP for website translation, which it doesn’t see, nor does it see any others.

When you say “doesn’t delete them” is Custom Clean saying “Skipped” or do you mean that it deletes them but they are back again next time you Analyze/Run?
Could you post a screenshot of the Analyze/Cleaning results?

No, it doesn’t say “skipped”. After cleaning, they are not listed as removed in the cleaning results, they are simply not listed among the removed ones at all after cleaning.
Could this be related to the fact that I am using the portable version of CCleaner Free…? Otherwise, I don’t know…

If not listed at all then that usually means that there weren’t any to remove.

So we have to consider if there were none to be removed anyway - or had they already been removed.

What makes you sure that they are still there?

I can tell that they are still there, for example, by the fact that when I open Firefox, all cookies are still present in its settings. If CCleaner had really deleted them, they would not be there. Also, if Firefox files were deleted, CCleaner would not show them again as being to be cleaned during a new analysis (immediately after cleaning).

I’m intrugued by that because AFAIK the cookies are not listed in settings. (you have to go into the Developer tools to see the cookies in Firefox, and it’s not simple).

However that’s by the by.
Do you have “Restore previous Session” set in Firefox?
Firefox pre-loads cookies when “Restore previous session” is enabled in settings, specifically accessing cookies from the last opened sites to ensure a smooth page restoration.
So if you have that set then even if you have cleared the cookies Firefox will go and get them again next time you open it.

The bit about CCleaner showing them again if run again straight away is interesting if it isn’t saying ‘Skipped’.

You say that you are using CCleaner Portable - is that the official Portable from the builds page?
Download CCleaner builds | CCleaner Portable, Slim, and more
Or is it a repack from a 3rd party website?

Are you runing it from a USB stick, or is it saved on your computer?

Again; if you would post a screenshot showing your CCleaner settings for Firefox, and the cleaning results (similar to my first one above) then it may help us work out what is happening

I can view cookies in Firefox like this: Settings - Privacy & Security - Cookies and Website Data - Manage Data button.

I don’t have Restore Previous Session enabled.

Yes, CCleaner Portable is the official version downloaded from Download CCleaner builds | CCleaner Portable, Slim, and more

I run CCleaner from a USB flash drive.

Here are the Cookies in Firefox.

Here are the CCleaner settings for Firefox.

Here it is after the analysis is complete.

Here is after the cleaning is complete. Only cookies are here, but they are not actually deleted, other Firefox data that should have been deleted is not displayed here.

Here is the analysis performed immediately after the cleaning. All Firefox data is offered to be deleted again. Even the same number of Cookies (27 files) that should have already been deleted.

And here are 0 add-ons for Firefox, although I have 2.

Thanks for those screenshots, I will study them later to see if I can work out what is (isn’t) happening.

At first glance it looks as if Firefox is not being cleaned because it is still running in the bsckground.

It may just be taking it’s time to fully close.

I know that on my Windows 11 laptop Firefox can take up to 20 seconds to close fully after it’s window has closed - so I have to wait before running a clean or it doesn’t get cleaned properly.

So as a first suggestion I would try that, close your Firefox, leave it 30 seconds or so and then try a clean.

Not all add-ons get listed because there are different types, of add-ons - extensions and plug-ins.
If you only have two then it may simply be that they are a type that CCleaner doesn’t list?

if you are using a portable version of firefox that would explain why the various firefox-related files are not being removed.

The mystery is solved!
The anomaly is caused by the ESET Internet Security security software, specifically the “Browser Protection” feature. Since version 18.2.14.0, this feature locks the Firefox profile for editing, even when it is closed.
This explains the inability to delete Firefox files. When I included CCleaner in the exceptions of the aforementioned Browser Protection feature and ran the cleanup, everything it has was properly deleted and was not offered for deletion again.

Firefox add-ons now also display correctly in the CCleaner environment.

So for anyone who might have the same problem (maybe with a different browser).

Good to hear that you found the cause, that is one which I don’t think we have come across before.

I have marked this thread as being solved.

Dobrý den, mám přesně ty samé problémy, mám i eset. Jak jste to nastavil v tom Esetu, prosím? Zkusil bych to taky a vyzkoušel. Děkuji, Franto

Go to “Advanced settings”, then click on “Browser protection” on the left, in the “Safe banking and web browsing” section, scroll down and there is the item “List of allowed files in browser protection”. Click on “Change”. A window with exceptions for this function will open. In this window, click on the “Add” button and in the next smaller window, enter the path where you have CCleaner stored in the line that appears (e.g. E:\CCleaner\CCleaner64.exe). Of course, adjust the path to the exe file according to your actual path. Then click on all the “OK” buttons to save the changes.

Zdravím Fox_Mulder1, budu psát česky, angličtina je u mě složitější.

Možná špatně koukám, ale u sebe vidím jenom Nastavení, ne Pokročilé nastavení.
Chci dát snímek obrazovky, ale mě to nepusti dál.

MĹŻĹžete prosĂm ty jednotlivĂŠ kroky dĂĄt jako obrĂĄzky? Pomohlo by mi to.
