  1. I can confirm this bahavior also. The files within the temporary internet folders are deleted, but the folders themselves, and the index.dat file (loaded with internet track history) remain untouched. I have not checked after running CCleaner to see whether or not file NAMES remain in the temporary internet folders. This was clearly an issue back in the 'pre V2xx CCleaner' days. Hope file names are being destroyed now, in addition to content.

  2. Problem resolved for Vista, and it was not a bug in CCleaner. Found this KB article on the MS website. Turns out you have to CREATE the

    %rootdir% environment variable on Vista. It's not already there as in previous versions of Windows. Once I created it, following this KB article, CCleaner wiped the TMP files out of my C:\ folder like a charm. Hope this tip saves someone else some agony.

  4. I changed my entry to %systemdrive% (copied and pasted your reply) and still no luck. Were you able to get it to delete a tmp file in Vista ? If I simiply change the folder the tmp file is in, it works like a charm, so I am wondering if it could be either a bug or a privs issue. I dont think it s a privs issue because I am the admin and I can add and delete files in the root folder at will...

  5. Not sure if there is a bug in V2 beta 491, or if I am just missing the obvious. Simply trying to clean TMP files out of my root folder in Vista. Winapp2.ini entry is as follows:

    [Misc Apps]

    LangSecRef=3021

    DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe

    Default=True

    FileKey1=%rootdir%|*.tmp

    The 'test.tmp' file that I placed in my root folder does not delete. Would someone kindly confirm an error in my entry or the possibility of a bug? THANKS !

  6. Running Vista, the latest beta - 491 - shows a detailed log of Internet Explorer temporary files whether the option to show them is ticked or not under Options/Advanced. Can anyone else duplicate this behavior ? Everything else in 491 seems to be working so far, including deleting files in the root folder, which I reported as a bug a couple of days ago.

  7. Good advice, indeed. As much as I would like to keep V2, it's just not 'there' yet, at least on Vista. I will continue to run 1.41.544 until the next beta 2 is released, then try again. The older version handles cookies like a champ. The only thing I miss is V2's ability to exclude folders from folder or file deletion. That is one cool improvement. I'll install the next beta release, and those after that, just to see what has been fixed or not. Thanks again ! !

  8. Shodan, have you got "show hidden files and folders" option turned on?

    Yes, indeed. That's about the first thing I changed when I got this laptop. And I just ran into another issue, as well. Trying to add either files or folders under Options/Exclude. I can add files and/or folders OK, but as soon as I click off of that option page and then back again, it's wiped clean. Since there is no 'Set' or 'Store' on that page, I am assuming entries should keep until they are deleted by the user. Using Vista/Business. Can someone else with Vista please confirm this behavior ?

  9. I have exactly the same problem on Vista with the latest version - 2.0.XXX Have been using CCleaner for several years now, so I know how it SHOULD work, but it continues to show several cookies in the Options/Cookies/Cookies to delete pane, but running CCleaner does not indicate they will be deleted, nor does it delete them. Strange thing is that I cannot find these cookies on my system. File search doesn't help and they are not in my Users\(user name)\Cookies folder, either. Looked in every 'Cookies' folder I could find in Vista, but I must be missing one somewhere.

  10. Trying to simply delete a *.tmp file from Vista's root folder. I've tried everything I know from labeling the folder "C:\" and "%rootdir% to "systemdir". Nothing works. When I move the tmp file to "test" folder and change my argument to "FileKey1=C:\test|*.tmp", it works like a charm and deletes the tmp file immediately. Yes, I have full admin permissions, etc. Seems to me somehow CCleaner is not cleaning anything out of the root folder on Vista, no matter what. Can anyone else duplicate this issue ? I have used CCleaner with a custom winapp2.ini file for a couple of years now, so I don't belive I am overlooking the obvious... THANKS ! !

  11. Ever since version 1.38.485, CCleaner runs ohhhh s-o-o-o-o-o S-L-O-W under Windows 98. It seems to run normally on XP and Vista, but on my 98SE laptop, it slows to a crawl when I go above this version. I have secure deletion enabled, but with only one pass overwriting. I have seen similar behavior on other softwares when authors make 'Vista compatibility tweaks', but they were able to correct them. Hope CCleaner is not doomed to leave the many, many 98 users behind. Some of us still have older hardware and for many reasons, 98 is still the best choice for older systems with limited memory and disk space. As always, thanks for listening.

  12. Can't believe no one seems to be getting the hint (via NO replies from the author) that they are clearly not interested in new beta testers. Why keep filling this topic with volunteer notes ? Why not simply PM Mr. G and keep this topic clean ?

  13. Not sure how the CCleaner staff selects their beta testers, but I have volunteered several times in the past and never received a reply any of my messages. All I can hope is that the beta testers they have are testing on more than just the XP and Vista platforms. I fix computers for a living and have to maintain and use Win 98, as well. I beta test for several shareware authors now, but CCleaner doesn't seem to be interested in new testers for some reason... <_<

  14. Well... I'm ALMOST at a loss for words. Just downloaded V1.4 and it STILL does not ERASE file NAMES ! ! Sorry - just being honest. After weeks and weeks of waiting, it is still not securely erasing files - which includes file NAMES, by virtually anyone's definition.

  15. I think the inclusion of a option that directs CCleaner to run when IE closes would be a good one.

    I'm sure that someone has an idea as to how to make this happen external to IE and CCleaner. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

    Billy

    Totally agree with you, Billy, but I think your best bet would be to picket one of the IE Shell writers (such as SlimBrowser or Avant Browser) to add 'Run program X at shutdown' to their shell...
