  1. ... as already mentioned in my other bug report (compact database firefox), the Avira Icon in the Notification Area (right side of/in Taskbar using Windows 7 64-bit) disapears after running CCleaner as of v5.28.

It doesn't disapear right away, but after logoff/logon it is gone.

Even the second User is affected.

The logon to a second User (after running CC on the first user) is immediately missing the avira icon, so that one thinks avira is not running.

Solution:  do a second logoff/logon or open Avira i.e. per desktop icon and just close it without further action.

The world will not go under,

but it is 'not quite nice' and very irritating losing the icon in the notification area, since a logoff/logon is not always doable.

  2. @wise_alec,

it was not meant to be professional or unprofessional, it is merely my opinion.

as it was the opinion of @JMR to say what he said.

you are entitled to deal with it as you deem fit; ignore, accept, entirely up to you.

if the lack of Compact Databases issue is critical to your usage of your PC, there are options available until Piriform releases a fix.

like reverting to a previous version of CC, or using FF internal browser cleaning processes to vacuum the SQLlite DB's.

and of course you could go completely 'nuke from space' and create a new profile.

also, ask yourself, what is gained by 'compacting' an SQL database.

how much of a space or performance improvement do you expect?

DB's only get a performance gain by being reorganised not by records being added or changed, but by large amounts of data being deleted and relocated.

so while annoying, it's not a mission-critical feature that is currently not functioning - BUT, as I said - that is just my opinion.

like you, I am just a ordinary member of this forum, volunteering my time in the off-chance it may help others.

I just have the added housekeeping chores associated with being a Moderator and am in no way linked to Piriform above and beyond those tasks already mentioned.

    mta:

didn't want to heart your feelings ... sorry ...

BUT, I also just stated MY opinion!

AND when I ask myself what "one gains compacting ..." I can tell you that we gain a lot!

Among other "problems", for example,  working with BOINC and running "climateprediction" WUs (they run up to 20 days round the clock - unstopable)

we have to regularily compress during those 20 days - otherwise data results are "blocked" from being uploaded to their server and WUs crash.

So this represent a big problem for us.  AND, please, don't ask me why this is so ...

Also, "just nuking out of space ..." represent not "much fun"!

Of course we can do "workarounds".

But your reply sounded a bit like ... what's the big issue ... ... just do this or that ... ... no problem ... ... all is easy ... etc.

Users (probably just me/us) don't like such comments or replies.

Just a tip ... trying to help ...

So again I'm very sorry  to have imposed upon you.

As a closing remark ment for the Piriform.com:

v5.29.6033 solved the problem. Many THANKS.

  3. We are running several rigs (all Win7).

On each two users (one with ADMIN rights and one without).

We can reprocude it, on ALL rigs, every time we:

      1) power up PCs

      2) logon to ADMIN

      3) execute CCleaner

      4) logoff from ADMIN

      5) logon to USER

      6) --> Avira icon in Notification Area will not show up ...

    Solution:

      do a re-logon to USER.

BUT this solves the problem not every time.

Only a power off/on will always do the job.

For those who are now wondering and want to point out or ask the following:

There is no arrow in the Notification Area to click on, in order to re-activate the icon.

Checking the Task Bar properties shows that the Avira icon is set to "Show icon and notifications".

    AND, yes,

unticking the "AntiVir Desktop" option under Utilities in CCleaner solves this behavior.

    BUT,

is it actually a new bug, or just a new feature under v5.28.6005?

    Have a nice day ...

  4. ... been running CCleaner without problems for years on my six rigs ... but

after updating to v5.27.5976(64-bit) CCleaner crashes at around 97% (Firefox) on only ONE of my PCs.

All PCs have Win7 Pro 64-bit running - each with two accounts (one admin and one normal user).

CCleaner works OK with the ADMIN account (on the one and only crashing system), but crashes when executing it on the second (normal user) account.

After reading the post here, I unchecked the "compact database" option for Firefox and it then works OK.

I'm not running other browsers (except IE - not using it).

I have attached a zipped dump log file.

The dump instructions you have pinned are not quite correct - the log file is located unser user appdata local crashdumps (at least on my setup).

    Have a nice day!
