Exactly, one needs to go as far as smashing a window but piriform shouldn't go this far, otherwise microsoft needs to step in, but that means this cleaning rule is nonsense.

The new "Windows Defender Backup" rule doesn't delete anything here (Windows 11), any ideas?
(That's kind of expected as the folder should have a strong anti-tampering protection.)

For version 5.92 'CCleaner.exe'/'CCleaner64.exe' were moved to folders 'x86'/'x64'. However the folder 'lang' and the file 'portable.dat' were not moved accordingly. So the portable version is no longer portable and missing all languages except english. Please fix.

I see. So it was decided that it wasn't enough to have it in the installer only and now with 5.83 it was added to the CCleaner executable, too, so that you cannot easily delete it.

When starting version 5.83 portable CCleaner64.exe (SHA: B3CD84848A587AD11D0F7446248EAE7A6064E86B) sometimes unpacks a file named gcapi_*.dll (the * stands for a couple of digits) and then quickly hides it again.

Please explain yourself!

edit: The file is gcapi.dll 85.0.4183.0 (SHA: A8433CAB1DEB9C128C745057A809B42110001F55), i.e. the google cloud api interface. So they hide it in the exe, unpack it with a random number added to its name so you cannot block it by name, hide it in ram and phone home. Nice stuff and totally trustworthy.

I don't think this patch was supposed to fix this issue. There'll probably be a next patch in a few days.

It's the language. All other languages than EN work fine, e.g. https://www.ccleaner.com/fr-fr/ccleaner/release-notes. Because the actual release notes are written in english everywhere anyhow, I just switched the link to a localized version and the problem is fixed.

Since a few weeks when visiting https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/version-history I often, but not always, get a 'too many redirects' error. I tried different browsers, clearing their caches and cookies, etc. but nothing works. It worked fine for many years so I guess it's a site issue. Any ideas?

I'm using the portable Win10 x64 free edition of CCleaner v5.74. It occasionally writes a dmp-file to the same folder where the exe resides. I'm unable to reproduce it all the time, it just happens sometimes. Everything seems to work fine though. No crashes or issues at all. What's the reason for this?

There is a folder called 'cache' (seems to be for faster startup) but the actual PowerDVD cache where all the thumbs, previews, BD-Live stuff etc. is saved and which needs cleaning is '%LocalAppData%\Cyberlink\PowerDVD*\Caches'.

However I did read the piriform help and the post you mentioned and inspected the builtin winapp/winreg/winsys.ini as well as the winapp2.ini before asking my questions. So if I haven't overlooked something the answers aren't in it.

 

I would like to learn the underlying programming language/pattern matcher so to build my own contructs. The available documentation is insufficient for that.

 

Does CCleaner support some well defined language/pattern matcher like regular expressions, CleanerML, etc.?

Some example questions:

What does that match? All files with a '.'? But then why use longer '*.*' elsewhere?

 

Why a construct like 'path|*.*|REMOVESELF'? If the folder is removed so is it's content, isn't it?

 

How to detect if a folder is not empty?

DetectFile=path\*

DetectFile=path\*.*

 

Will the latter also match empty subfolders? If so why doesn't the '.' prevents that?

 

Can the ';' also be used for registry keys? Why not?

 

I could go on with such questions for a long time so it would be easiest if there's an extensive documentation somewhere.
