Sorry I've forgot something:
During recovery attempt, the external hard drive was connected to the PC and visible on the file explorer.

Hello everyone,
First of all: sorry for my limited English.
Then: my Microsoft Windows version is 8.1 (64-bit).
I accidently have erased all the files of an external hard drive.
I used Recuva v1.53.1087 (64-bit) to recover these files.
After a while, the Recuva window showed a long list of files with the following information:
Filename;Path; Last modified; Size; State; Comment. Each State was: "Excellent"
Each Comment was: "No overwritten clusters detected".
The information on the Info tab of the left window was clear and accurate.
The target folder was located under the root of the internal hard drive of my PC, with the shortest possible name: D:\G
But every time I tried to recover a file, Recuva failed with the the following reason: The device is not ready.
What factor caused this effect?
How correct it?
Thank you for your help.

Hello Razamatraz, I’m sorry for my very late answer.
Happily I have just received on my mailbox a message from Filehippofree, connected with this post!
This message have awoken me.
Thank you both.
Razamatraz, your feedback seems to solve the problem: my PC is programmed to stop after 30 minutes of inactivity.
This has drawn my attention to a point I won’t forget next time !
Sincerely yours
