  1. I would like to suggest that the option to clean the "Tray Notifications cache" be added for Vista users, i know this option is available in Windows XP but this option isn't available in Windows Vista.

I have found the registry entries in Vista that need to be deleted, but i guess the development team already know this, just in case anyone would like to know the registry entries to be deleted in Windows Vista you will find them below, some of you will notice that the registry path for Windows Vista is similar to the one used for Windows XP.

Run "regedit" and navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify" and delete the following registry entries in the right pane, "IconStreams" and "PastIconStreams", now all that is needed is to stop and then restart "explorer.exe" from the "Task Manager" and restart your computer.

I hope this post will help people that have moved to Vista and are wondering how they can clear the "Tray Notifications cache" now this feature is no longer available for Vista users.

Please can you add this feature for us Vista users.

    Thanks!

  2. I have used these steps with both XP and Vista which work until I reboot computer and all is reset back to previous defaults.

After you delete the registry entries you "MUST" stop and then restart the explorer.exe process before you restart your computer for this to work.

Also, with Vista there is not the - Advanced > Tray Notifications Cache (yes it's listed on my XP system).

This is indeed correct, in Vista there is no option listed for Advanced > Tray Notifications Cache but in XP this option is available, i hope this option gets added/fixed, whatever the case may be.

  3. Is there a way to do this with Vista? I am using XP S2, but my friend has been trying to find a way to do it with her Vista Home.

Yes there is a way but for some reason not with CCleaner (i hope it will be added soon for Vista), andyway the to do it in Vista is to open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify and delete the folowing entries in the right pane IconStreams and PastIconStreams, close regedit and start Task Manager and click on the Processes tab, now find and highlight explorer.exe and click End Process, now click File > New Task {Run...), type explorer in the Open field and click OK, now restart your system.

In regedit for ease of use i have added HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify to the Favorites tab so i don't have to got looking about in the registry every time i want to delete past icons in the notification area of the taskbar.

    Hope this helps!
