  1. I used Ccleaner about one month ago and had a very bad experience with it. Not sure what I did wrong but it deleted all my documents which included my many vidoes which took me countless hours to download. The only files not that were not harmed were my program files but everything else was gone. I tried many different recovery programs to no avail. Anyways, I have downloaded Tuneup Utilities and used its registry scanner which showed 600 problems. I want to clean my registry but am wary of the possible consequences. Can anybody offer any help on how to properly clean my registry?

Also, I used Tuneup registry cleaner and deleted some files (around 15) that I no longer use such any AOL files. However, after doing so, I performed another scan and it showed more errors than before. I backed my files so I was able to restore the previous files. Why did more registry problems appear when I deleted the AOL files?

Thanks, Dave (not a skilled computer user)

Dave I recover many files each month even from drives that have been formatted. Try using "recover my files" I think there is a free to try verson. The only program I found stable and good from removing rubbish from your pc is Purgeie use with ie or fox

  2. Has anyone had problems using CCleaner and outlook express win2000. I find it changes certain file extesions to N/A This is what I have to do each time I run CCLeaner

    Windows 2000

    1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.

    2. Click Tools, click Folder Options, and then click File Types.

    3. In the Registered File Types box, click URL:File Transfer Protocol, and then click Advanced.

    4. In the Actions box, click Open, and then click Advanced.

    5. The Application Used To Perform Action box may display the path to your Web browser as a short file name or as an incorrect path. Type the path to your Web browser with the full file name. For example, the following path may appear in the Application Used To Perform Action box.

    c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore.exe

Change the path to the following path:

    "c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" (including the quotation marks).

    6. Click OK, and then click Close.

    7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the following registered file types:? URL:Gopher Protocol

    ? URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol

? URL:Hypertext Transfer protocol with Privacy

    URL:File Transfer Protocol

    ? URL:Internet Shortcut
