from the Windows Task Scheduler, have you tried ticking the box for your task under its Security Options that says Run whether user is logged on or not ?
I actually just did a test, and it's set by default - so to answer your question - Yes.

Yes, because it runs it under the SYSTEM user.
If it ran under your user, you would see it 'pop up'.

Hi All,
Would you please come up with a method of condensing (defragmenting freespace) and defragmenting at the same time. Users never rememver to defragment free space. And, if they don't do it, they get heavily fragmented the first time they write to their drive after they have defragmented.

Windows 8.1. Bummer.
You have to set you power setting to "always on" so that i won't ever sleep. This link should walk you through it:
