  1. At the moment I use Firefox with Sage extension as a RSS reader. I see a few issues so I started to look for a stand-alone and free RSS reader. Google points some readers but before I will check them I'd like to ask about your opinion. Any hints will be appreciated.

  2. After removing the 1.4.2_01 Java version from the Add/Remove screen you can check that you have the latest Java installed by visiting this link

    http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

#1 Update 6 is the latest.

#2 You can also open Control Panel -> Java -> Update tab -> "Update Now" button to check the latest version. The method didn't work prior to Update 5, but I've upgraded from Update 5 to Update 6 this way.

  3. Well that folder on my system has 1.89 MB, 5 files, and 2 folders. One of the files it has stored in there is KB913446 which is an update to tcpip.sys.

Interesting. Mine has only 5 files like:

    d9fe86bae1b2548e26d703a767b0f76b8a17bc88

    deef0631e0403578bef261bb6b8b867204cfe5ae

    etc.

The subfolder contains usually last Windows Update and it shrinks automatically on my box.

KB913446 was installed on 15.02.2006 here so it was the last Windows Update. Please look what will happen when next Windows Update occures. IMO Download subfolder will be cleaned.

  4. :-| I've seen installations with several hundred MB in them. Do you use Windows Update from the web?

I run XP Home with SP2. Patches are via automatic Windows Update. Now I checked again Downloads subfolder. It has only 3 items - total 65 kb. So OS has cleaned it automatically from 5,75 Mb to 65 kb.
