  1. I seem to have a similar issue. "My Computer" is missing the drive entirely and when I go to device manager and click on the drives properties I get the following "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I've tried getting new drivers, I've tried uninstalling and rebooting but nothing seems to work.

    I inserted a boot disk and started it up to see what would happen and it attempted to install windows from the drive, so I am very confused. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advnace.

    Corrupted or improper filter. I troubleshooted the same problem a few days ago for a neighbor (made $75! woo hoo!)

    Manual steps to delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values that can cause CD access problems

    Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

    To manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values, follow these steps:

    1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

    2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

    4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

    6. Quit Registry Editor.

    NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

    7. Restart your computer.

  2. Just to clear up a few progress bar questions.

    With the Cleaner function, the progress bar will continue to the end and then restart, it's purely a way to show you something is happening. I'm aware it's a slightly non-standard way to do things, but to have a proper 0 to 100% progress bar would slow down the cleaning a lot.

    I'm going to look into restyling the way it displays.

    With the Issues function it operates as a normal progress bar.

    I've noticed when erasing with CCleaner 3 pass and Eraser 3 pass, same method, same approx amount of data (500MB), Eraser seems to be both faster and has a proper progress bar.

    Aside from that minor issue, everything performs very, very nicely. Thank you.

  3. I'm going to be picky, how about these suggestions for renaming:

    Simple Overwrite (1 Pass, Fast)

    DoD Short (3 Pass, Slow)

    DoD 5220-22.M (7 Pass, Slower)

    Gutmann Wipe (35 Pass, Slowest)

    Custom...

    Notice the last two I added don't exist yet, its a hope for the future... custom erasing would be nice. :)

    If there was gutmann, custom erasing, and right-click erasing like eraser... well there wouldn't be any need for eraser.

  4. ZoneAlarm isnt going to intercept something launching your browser, if it has trusted access. Notice the link it launches?

    http://www.ccleaner.com/update/?v=1.26.218&l=1033

    (Emphasis added, notice the bold number?)

    See how it has your version number in the link? The server just blindly reads that link and says "you need an update" if it finds anything other than the latest version.

    If you made it read "http://www.ccleaner.com/update/?v=1.10.218&l=1033 ", it would tell you that you need an update. In fact, if you made it read anything other than the latest version, you get the upgrade message.
