  1. I am in safe mode now. I do not have a xp cd, this laptop did not include one. But when it boots, it gives me the option of recovery console. I have one folder in the system vol information folder for restore files, dated 12-17-09, which I remember is a good configuration. I cannot access this thru safe mode. Any ideas?

Larry the ccleaner backups you make are not of your total registry, just of the things that ccleaner fixes at the time.

The backsup which are kept in 'my documents' by default ,could be merged in safe mode without the need for using ccleaner. Just right-click and choose merge.

    Does system restore not work?

Do you have a windows xp cd?

Also consider the fact that a virus or malware could cause this sort of problem, perhaps you could download and run some of the cleaning scans here and post in the spyware hell part of the forum with the logs.

Are you able to use safe mode with networking as a choice?

If not perhaps a friend could help by downloading them for you.

  2. my system is stuck in safe mode. Try to boot up, gets a quick instaneous flash of a blue screen, then back to safe mode. All my icons are there, can access my files etc, but cannot get into normal xp mode.

I have been using ccleaner for some time, and it has made backups of my registry, even recently before this crash. Can I use ccleaner in safe mode and restore a registry to bring win xp to boot into normal mode again?
